Well at that time most of Squaresoft's sales were from Japan. The Genesis/Megadrive didn't do very well in Japan, so it's easy to see why they stuck with the NES/Famicom, until the SNES/Super Famicom release. The cost of the cartridges on the N64 and the lack of space on them compared to cheaper CD's was a big reason they jumped ship to the PS1. I remember being really surprised when they stopped making games for Nintendo systems, as I had always played and loved their games on my Nintendo systems. The Saturn was and still is my favorite system from the 32bit generation, but I still ended up buying a PS1 because I wanted to play FF7, otherwise I probably never would've bought one. |
So. I never mention the MegaDrive. Also, the Genesis was poised to dominate the 16-bit era worldwide, but it was their CD add-ons that did them in LATE in the game. And DUH it was the use of CD's in the PlayStation that helped drove them from Nintendo. It still didn't discount the possibilty that "if Squaresoft felt that the N64 met their needs or if the N64 were designed differently, they would have stuck with Nintendo."
Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.
