SE has deserved it, though I'm not sure if there's a single person to blame. Anyway, if they constantly lie to us and then suddenly "change their mind", it's not very good publicity. Or course you could argue that all publicity is good... But I wouldn't necessarily say so.

It's fine if they tell the truth, or at least don't lie even if they don't tell the truth, but lying is what's bad. "No current plans" isn't a very bad way to say it, though I don't like it. But it's much better than "no plans now, tomorrow or ever" or anything similar.

Maybe Wada is trying to destroy the Final Fantasy franchise.  Hmmm...

Or maybe he is clever enough to know that supporting a console that is 3rd in sales with exclusivity for games is company suicide?

And what alternate reality were you in reference to?  SE was performing fine financially during the development of FFXIII in this reality.  And if you are going to partially quote me, please quote enough so the sarcasm of my comment will not be taken out of context.  Thank you, and please come again.

Wait

Why do they even care? I remember a similar stink over Vesperia's late port; why is this even a thing?

the japanese are a very exclusive peoples.

oh and not only that, but those fans have been supporting SE since before square and enix merged. They supported them on ps1, ps2, and ps3. It's tradition.

The same fans who were also supporting on Sony's NES and Sony's SNES?

Oh... wait! Apparently Square doesn't have tradition, and you'd think longtime fans realize this. It's business.

I understand it's from a different cultural viewpoint, but from my view, why would you care if another console is getting your game? Let more people enjoy it, that's a good thing! The only thing I can see a gripe about is if the "other" version is getting better content than your version.

FF XIII for xbox360 its going to sell how much in japan? they are overreacting over some lousy 4 copies... SE made some dumb move because is getting bad publicity, will lose customers trust and will sell poorly. it is not worth IMO

yeah, not worth the permanent stain on the company's image

As a "longtime fan" from 1988 to 2002, I always felt that there was a different "vibe" going from "Squaresoft" to SquareEnix."  It was just there.  Also, I didn't see Squaresoft "jump ship" from NES to Genesis since the Genesis was more powerful than the NES while it was released before the SNES.  I also didn't see Squaresoft "jump ship" to the Saturn or the Dreamcast either.  In fact, it was reported that Squaresoft was doing some testing for Nintendo's "next" console (the N64) until they found that it was limited when compared to the PlayStation and what they wanted to do.  My personal take is that if Squaresoft felt that the N64 met their needs or if the N64 were designed differently, they would have stuck with Nintendo.  Just my take, but it's fairly reasonable.

hmm ... can Final Fantasy really lose it's fan base in Japan because of this? square Enix getting boycotted would make me so happy :3

*Gets on knees*

Please God let this be the beginning of the end to a franchise that went sour years ago. I don't care for exclusivity or multiplat. I just want this franchise to disappear from the face of the earth so other deserving RPGs can finally rise.

YESSSSSSS PLEASE!!!!  But please SE, DO NOT RUIN KINGDOM HEARTS!

*Gets on knees*

Dear Lord, listen to hatmoza's pray and MAKE IT HAPPEN!  And don't let SE ruin my favorite franchise of all-time!  And thank Nomura for me for making Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep the best game I have ever played.  Please and thank you.

That was...........weird.  XD

Imo FF has already lost much of its fanbase since FF12 and FF13. i think the sales, and the reception thus far show that. both FF12 & FF13 seem to have a high level of animosity amongst the long time fans. and it seems like the Japanese fans only seem to care about an FF7 remake these days, so i mean i think after Versus 13 we'll know where the series stands. but i think there are many people who wont touch the franchise again... well thats the impression i have been getting recently!

SE needs to go multiplatform when they develop an HD game. Vs XIII will go the same route.

Their large development time and huge budget to make one of these games cannot recover all the costs with an exclusive HD console game.

SE cannot be exclusive anymore. People must acknowledge this

I think people understand this. However SquareEnix needs to stop actively lying to people's faces though. That's their problem. People hate that crap.

I wonder how long will it take for Wada to be removed from his position. Not because of this but for all of the problems SquareEnix has that all originate from the SquareSoft side of things. To many damn Square people were put or kept in charge of key positions when the merger with Enix took place. I still never understood why that happen. I thought Enix was the better off company at the time as well. Just glad that the Square side of things seemlingly can't touch the Dragon Quest franchise.  They most certaily would have screwed that up I'm sure of it.

Of course it's reasonable. Square isn't married to Sony, they can make games for any console they choose. I do see the problem with how they have said time and again that it is a Sony exclusive in Japan, which made potential buyers forced to own a PS3. Now that it is coming out on the 360, a lot of those PS3 purchases might have been unecessary if the user already owned a 360. I can see a person's complaints if that were the case. The only thing I don't understand is why it's so bad for a game with the same content to come out on competing consoles you don't own. More gamers get to enjoy it!

It's human though. Just like any other industry or topic, there are a number of extreme fans who become so obsessed with it that they take everything very seriously. Having a once-exclusive game go multiplat is like the biggest slap in the face to those people. I could be pretentious and say "grow up and stop caring so much about companies business decisions, it shouldn't bother you. Enjoy your games," but I can look around me and see people just as intense and deep in other topics of life, like football for instance. In the end, I don't really know what to say, besides maybe those people should just try to look at it from a different viewpoint and be glad more people can enjoy the same game.

I don't know, maybe it's something to do with the age that these people grew up in, or maybe it's that they think the game will be altered to entertain an expanded audience. Or maybe it's having to wait or something.

I really don't know. We should be asking them instead of asking each other and saying "that's stupid, right" "yeah, totally stupid" because that's just groupthink.

lol, you actully have a point. all the SE people from Sqaure shouldve have the highest positions. imo Wada isnt the problem, hes just a business man whos doing his job. - which is to ensure the future of the company and protect the employees. and i think that had FF13 reached the success of FF7 SE wouldnt need to go multiplatform. its the fault of the developers that Wada has to now clean up their mess!
