Forums - Nintendo - Wii-Mote Capabilities - Video (lightsaber in use)

Sweet...it's too bad that the actual Wii sensor bar only has 2 lights then.

So pack in a new sensor with whatever game that uses it and jack up the price. That silly N64 Expansion thing didn't stop Perfect Dark from selling a couple of million copies, and there's no way in hell I'd miss a Wii Lightsaber game because I need a new sensor bar. Look at Guitar Hero. Damn Guitar jacks the price way up, but it's worth it because it's generally awesome.

you know, this could very VEry easily addressed, just get a second accelerometer that plugs directly into the base of the Wiimote. that way you can judge yaw the same way Sixaxis does, by comparing the forces on each of the accelerometers together, and then using the IR sensors to make any minor adjustments needed in actual location judging.

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!

Currently wrapped up in: Half Life, Portal, and User Created Source Mods
Games I want: (Wii)Mario Kart, Okami, Bully, Conduit,  No More Heroes 2 (GC) Eternal Darkness, Killer7, (PS2) Ico, God of War1&2, Legacy of Kain: SR2&Defiance

My Prediction: Wii will be achieve 48% market share by the end of 2008, and will achieve 50% by the end of june of 09. Prediction Failed.

While that does in fact work it still leaves the relative orientation and absolute positioning of the remote/controller undetermined.  At some point you will need the controller or the tv to be aware of its position reletive to the other piece.

yeah, that's why you have it make those readjustments any time the Wiimote passes through a point in which it can see the sensor bar. The guy was already doing that without the second accelerometer, but I think if you had the second accelerometer, you'd have even less noticeable realignment amounts.

Better yet, build the accelerometer into a Lightsaber shell for the Wii, pack that in. I'd buy it. XD

Like I said in my last post, I agree that the extra accelerometer would enhance the tracking accuracy and most likely responce time as well by providing more data to extrapolate from and possibly allowing simplifications to the algorthims.

I was just pointing out that at some point you still need the IR (or something to replace it) in order to have the absolute positioning which is very important for games like this. I'm not sure what the reason for their design decision was but I probably wouldn't have made it. With that said they can still achieve everything seen in the video and likely more if they put a team on the job that is worthy of the task.

edit: PS - I modified the embed so it won't autoplay the damn video anymore...that was very very annoying.

Who needs full-range yaw, anyway? Holding the Wii remote vertically, it can recognize every motion Luke Skywalker uses when training with that droid on the Millenium Falcon. Actually, other than Han Solo slicing open that snow camel-kangaroo, I don't remember a light saber being used with a side-to-side motion...

My End of 2008 Hardware Predictions (console only):

Wii : 50 million

360: 28 million

PS3: 24 million

These predictions were made on January 3rd and won't be revised

yeah, but not everyone is going to act like Luke skywalker. If all your program can handle is moves like luke skywalker, it's gonna look buggy as heck when people do things any other way.
