William F Buckley Jr. would be taking people to the back of the woodshed to get things straightened out considering how low the discourse has sunk.

I do so love it when someone brings up the conservatives of the past to point out how awful the conservatives of today are, and I especially love it when they choose William "Shut Your Mouth, You Fucking Queer, Or I'll Smash Your Face In" Buckley as the paragon of civil discourse.

What is your beef with Buckley?  I bring up Firing Line as an example of programming superior to the angry populism going around as "conservatism" today on the likes of Fox News.

By the way, is this the clip you refer to about "Smash Your Face In"?

http://streetbonersandtvcarnage.com/blog/obit-the-dust-william-f-buckley-1925-2008/

I watched it several times and Buckley had me laughing out loud.  That was wit the way he said it.

That's the clip, yeah.

And not a thing. I'm a pretty huge fan of WFB, own a number of his books, and am currently reading Cancel Your Own Goddam Subscription. But yesteryear's conservatives are always so much smarter/nicer/better/handsomer/etc. than today's, at least according to certain people. Primarily, I think, it's that they're viewed as less threatening because they're either retired or dead.

I find it pretty amusing that Buckley has somehow become the go-to guy these days when someone wishes to point to a kinder, gentler, smarter conservatism. A lot of liberals are busy shitting their pants because they read into Sarah Palin's every utterance an attempt to foment violence or bash gays, so I can't begin to imagine what the reaction would be if she threatened to punch, say, Barney Frank in his fat clown face.

On the liberal side, thereis a greater value for intellectualism, large vocaubarlies and appearing to be the smartest man in the room.  This is why Buckley gets respected more.  Book knowledge is valued above other things in liberalism and among progressives, and why you will see liberals looking like they have a form of elitism.

I bring this up because there has been a pandering against intellectualism going on political on the GOP side.  Palin ends up being an example of this, where anything BUT being smart gets elevated.  Intellectual fiber not needed. As I see it, anyone who remotely cares about the political process should consider Palin not a viable candidate for president at this time.  Her being a hockey mom isn't it.  You don't go, "But Biden" here, and lower the qualifications.  You just say no.  I do appreciate the bluntness of Michael Savage here, in saying she isn't qualified.  But, of course this won't be done.

I do think there is a play towards populism that has led to far less taking the high road  I read Coulter's Godless, for example, and the last chapter is excellent.  But I had to wade through other chapters of immature namecalling and low road mudslinging.  I guess being low road does more to get attention.

This being said, intellect not same as character at all.  I think you see on here some people who think smart equals goodness, and will elevate that above other things of character, and think that they have more virtue because they don't believe in "stupid myths like God".  Nevermind that there are numbers of genius level people who have done some of the worst horrors to humanity.

Being a minority and getting into a position of power counts to.

Besides this, considering who the last president wasm please don't go down the dumbness path... particularly with a photo like that.

Believe me, you don't have to tell me how much liberals love to fetishize minorities. I'm also well aware of how vicious they are when someone who happens to be a minority dares to stray from the Democrat plantation... Clarence Thomas, for example, who is the most well known Supreme Court Justice today for the sole reason that the Dems turned his confirmation into a total circus out of pure spite.

The idea that Obama is the Smartest Man in the World is entirely a media contrivance, just as was the idea that Bush was so incredibly stupid. If the media trumpeted every time Obama stumbled when his teleprompter failed or got something assbackwards (little things like, I dunno, the fact that his health care reform plan bends the cost curve up and not down?) the same way they did every time Bush fell off his bike or choked on a pretzel, he'd be just as much a laughing stock.

@Kasz. He released his birth certificate. It was checked in person by the staff of Factcheck who confirmed it was really there in Honolulu. It says 'County of Birth: Honolulu' on the certificate.

You cannot get a birth certificate saying those things unless you were born in Hawaii.
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html

From what I recall, that birthcertificate is the "limited" birthcertificate.  There are two in Hawaii.

One of which you can get by being born in another country by american parents, but moving here within a specific time.

For example on my birth certificate it also tends to list the hospital you were born at and who delivered you... etc.

Could be wrong.  But I don't think that I am.

Ah, practially say about as much on Factcheck.  The problem lies in it being the short form.

No.  The short form is not a different class of birth certificate; it is more like an "abridged" birth certificate because it is the policy of the State of Hawaii to no longer give out the full copies, only the short version.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2009/jul/01/obamas-birth-certificate-final-chapter-time-we-mea/

I admit that the above link does not specifically, explicitly, and totally destroy the possibility that somehow in Hawaii you are allowed to show up with a baby and get it retroactively legally born in Hawaii, but I must ask you to give some evidence to that effect.  And even if you could, IMO that would count as "natural born" for legal purposes, and thus presidential-candidate-qualifying purposes.

[edit:  You will note that not only is it a Hawaiian birth certificate, but a Hawaiian birth certificate of a birth that actually took place in Hawaii (Honolulu, Oahu, specifically).]

Oh and just for fun, the gap between stated date of birth and "date filed by registrar" is 4 days, so they would have to have moved pretty fast to get all this done.

Or the stated date of birth is just off.

Also, i'd compare the differences between that and this which is interesting if true.

http://www.wnd.com/images/090728birthcert.gif

All in all, it could all eaisly be avoided by him giving permission to release hospital records if he was born at a hawaiian hospital.

He hasn't.  It can really only be for two reasons.

A) He's hiding something.

B) He'd of rather had the story go on because of political benefit.

The second is more likely, but the first isn't impossible.

1.  I want this to be absolutely clear:  are you suggesting incompetence, or fraud?  Because I don't really see any other options on that one.

2.  Did you even read the article??  "Although original birth certificates (Certificates of Live Birth) are preferred for their greater detail, the State Department of Health (DOH) no longer issues Certificates of Live Birth. When a request is made for a copy of a birth certificate, the DOH issues a Certification of Live Birth."

3.  At least 99.5% of people accept this as beyond beaten to death.  I'd say even among the people originally inclined to wonder about his citizenship, 90% or more are satisfied.  Just because there are a few diehards who will not be satisfied until we invent a time machine and go back and watch him be born doesn't make it worth pursuing further to the administration.

4.  This post which you seem to be responding to is just a sideline or addendum to the bigger one above (with the aforementioned article link).  Do you have any response to that post?
