Forums - General - Church plans to burn the Quran on Sept. 11

I'm no christian but there's one thing I want to say about this:

These people are a disgrace for everything that Jesus stood for.

But they are breaking the law... Local officials have denied a permit for the bonfire on the church's grounds

Did the cultural centre with a mosque close to ground zero break the law?

Technically they shouldn't of been denied a permit.  Usually this is the kind of thing the Civil LIberties union would file a lawsuit over.

They should be allowed to do it... and people should just protest the hell out of it.

It's the most grownup way to handle it.

This is an unappropriate word considering the topic at hand.

How so?

yep, not to mention things like the Crusades, and the Israeli Jews blow up Palestinians all the time.

Yep... those damn Christian Extremist Israeli Jews and their blowing up locations where rockets were fired at them.

If you are going to burn books like the Nazis, just burn all the Qurans and Bibles and be done with this fairytale bullshit retards are dying over.

If that's your logic, then we'd have to burn "On the Origin of Species" as well.

I don't agree with burning books, but the logic doesn't extend that way.  Origin of the Species is essentially a factual text, the religious books aren't and contain demonstrable factual errors, but let's not start the whole factual science vs fantasy religion debate all over again, it's pointless.

In fact, let's just not burn books and make inflamatory gestures would be my advice.  They should try sitting down and solving it - although actually in many ways that tends to throw up the basic (and often ignored) immuatability of differing religions when you get right down to it.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I'll be watching this. I'm a christiaI'm not american so the Mosque doesn't bother (probably bcuz I don't understand why it's a big deal) me & I don't support what the Florida church plans to do, but I'm very interested in knowing how this plays out.

Dunno, but associating Christian extremist wackos who want to throw a Koran burning part with the term  "grownup" just doesn't feel right.

Doesn't this classify as a fuckin hate crime?

No. Thankfully, we don't have an equivalent of the incredibly creepy Canadian Human Rights Commission (yet).

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Oh, Lord.

This is just wrong. This is exactly like the mosque. They have a right, but it's just wrong.

They don't have a right. It is agains the law.

But is it because of religion, or safety reasons? The article leaves that part out.

If it's for religous reasons, I would defend the people that want to burn the Quran because of religous freedom.

If it's for safety reasons, then I don't really know.

Too bad we'll never know what reason it's REALLY for....

It is also illegal to burn the American flag.

Uh, no it's not. The Supreme Court ruled it as free speech.
