Ok, so I traded in my old 2007 ps3 for a slim when it came out, so I have one new dualshock controller.  However, I still have a second regular sixaxis  controller from 2007 for when I play with friends.  However, this freaking controller doesn't want to stay charged for more than 10 minutes and it is annoying the crap out of me and my friends.  

So I was wondering if anybody knows of a cheaper way of replacing the battery in the controller instead of paying the 55 bucks for whole new controller.  

Can't replace the ps3's controller battery. Buy a longer USB cable.

Think SONY charged 10 or 15$. Call them up.

you could also try radio shack or some kind of electronics store if you dont want to order it online bring your old one with you so they can match it up

It super easy to replace the battery. You just un-screw the controller and unplug the battery. Then you plug a new one and screw the controller back.

Sorry about trolling, but I just can't hold my self to say "I told you so". There were a few years back big debate about PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers and then people were saying that PS3 controller is much better just because it includes  fixed rechargeable battery and for Xbox 360 controller you need to buy 5€ rechargeable AA batteries or overpriced rechargeable kit.

I did say then (and now) changing those rechargeable AA batteries will cost only 5€ and everybody can do that, but replacing PS3 fixed battery is much harder and more expensive(if even possible) and normal lithium batteries die in 3 to 6 years. I still can't understand why Sony did decide to make fixed battery to sixaxis/dualshock3.

It's $5 and it takes just a screwdriver and a random number of brain cells to change the battery. Amazon/eBay links already posted.

Being angry at a controller battery is hardly a reason to fuck it up for someone who may end up buying the rumble-less, battery-drained sixaxis, or for the store, if they happen to discover it first.
