Forums - General - Samsung Galaxy Tab vs iPad, Help!!!

Intersting site ate my post.... lets retype this.

Overall the Galaxy tablet blows away the ipad.

It has equal or better hardware, usb, front facing cameras, better screen, etc, etc.

The only thing iPad is better at is the video editing software coming on the latet update and a slightly larger screen. However, considering Android is open and far more accessible it will match that very quickly. Also, Samsung is putting out 10 and 12 inch variants soon.

Also, looking at software, the Swype technology is soooooooooo much better than anything anyone else offers. My brother just bought the Samsung Captivate over the iPhone 4 due to this reason alone. You can simply swipe your finger accross the keyboard and it is faster and more accurate than any form of typing. This is making me want to buy the new Samsung Fascinate coming for Verizon soon. Such a far better phone than the iPhone4.

Plus, you also have to think about the service provider and Verizon >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> AT&T. Expect to see it at a comparable pice when all is said and done.

Finally, it has bluetooth support and can be used as an actual phone with a headset.

Now, my real question is why *any* tablet when all they are is slightly larger smartphones. Why not just buy a really nice Android phone. THat's the part I don't understand right now.

Well, as a general rule, iAnythink will be a poor designed, low-functioning, overpriced piece of crap.  My wife talked me into getting an iPhone, and that was easily the worst technology decision that I have made in the last 20 yeasrs.

I'm a big supporter of Android, but seriously, iOS products are not anywhere near that bad...

Size.

The idea of a tablet PC is nothing new, but it has failed every time. It failed, because people were trying to stuff laptops into tablets. Why the iPad is so good (and same for an android tablet once someone makes a good one, this might be it), is it takes a well known and proven touch interface and applies it to a device that is big enough to do more with.

I have an iPad, MacBook Pro, and iPhone. I could watch Hulu on any of these. But when my wife and I go to bed and want to watch a 30 minute show before we go to sleep, we reach for the iPad. The phone seems to small, and the laptop to much trouble.

Right now, as I type this, my wife is looking at the iPad and making a recipe from a website. She could do this on the phone, but it's kind of small to be reading while sitting on the table with her hands messy. She could use a laptop, but she has moved it from counter to counter 5-6 times already. She would not do that with a laptop.

Also, I charge it once or twice a week, and we seem to use it all the time. Battery life is amazing. Better then both the phone and the laptop.

So while there is nothing we can do with the iPad that we could not do before, we now do more of them, because they make more sense to do.

It's hard to quantify how great the iPad is. All I can say, is if she broke it tonight, I would have another ordered before I went to bed.

What exactly is this Swype tech? It's for the touch screen - typing?

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I really appreciate it. I'm just going to wait a few months to see how things unfold. It would be nice if Apple made their iPad have phone and camera features. I'm sure they will at some point, but I'd like that point to be sooner rather than later...

It's really a tossup right now. So I think it's best to wait before making a choice.

Why? I am on my 3rd (3G, 3GS, and now  4).

If I had to give up every piece of electronics one by one, it would be the last thing to go.

Hard to see how with all the shit out there, it's the worst thing you have purchased in 20 years.

I assume you had a copy of Windows ME in there somewhere.

Dude,

Windows ME was a fracking Da Vinci compared to the iPhone.  Don't get me started on how awful the iPhone is.  I have probably cursed that thing more than all other devices' lifetime totals combined.

i'd wait to see what other android device comes out.

but if you cannot wait, I go for the Samsung, flash and html5 support. Plus a better processor.

You'll have to check out a video of it or head to a store to check out the demo phone. Basically, instead of typing out your text you just slide/swipe your finger accross the keyboard to all the letters you'd normally type. It then gives you the text your trying to 'type' out and so far in my tests the first option has been always right. It works great and now that the Fascinate has a hard launch date of this week at Verizon (sister phone to the AT&T Captivate and phone versions of the Galaxy Tab), I can't wait to order the phone.

ok, I guess I can see a usefullness to a tablet in general. Just not something that I'd need/want as I'm good with just sitting in the front room watching TV - interenet through PS3 - and using phone for recipe things you mentioned. Plus, she is still having to clean off hands to move it from counter to counter and the phones have zoom ability so its not too cumbersome on a 4" screen. However, if I travelled a lot, I'd want the larger screen for movies, etc.

Yeah, okay. ME was the biggest piece of shit operating system I've ever used (and I've worked in the tech industry for nearly a decade and dabbled for almost ten before that). Every smartphone built today is framed on the ideas Apple came up with for the iPhone. Exactly WHAT problems have you had with the phone? It rarely crashes, it offers nearly every function you could want from a phone (except tethering ARGH), and it's a solidly built piece of hardware (on my third phone now and none have broken outside of my own blundering). It has its problems but it's a damn fine smartphone.

To say you're exaggerating is a vast understatement.
