According to this, only Ireland had the console for 479€. Ultimately, the Xbox was reasonably priced in the US. I'm not sure what was going on in Europe.

Charging for Xbox Live has paid off greatly. They got the ball rolling on the original Xbox and it has become a huge on the 360.

Anyhow, I'm basically just saying Sony's bad decisions allowed MS to not worry about competitive pricing. Which is why their pricing right now seems arrogant.

i wasnt talking about their pricing. when i said that ms startng being to confident in 2005 im talking about their 3rd party strategy, rrod, no integrated wifi and in my opinion the high price of xbox live. they could have killed of sony if their wasnt rrod, or if they atleast fixed the problem, if that happened the whole comeback with the slim and great games in 2009 would have never happened. 

sony and ms are to confident, hell even nintendo is sometimes, the thing is which to much money things start going though your head, it happened with money, and it might happen with ms.

I doubt the 360 would have killed the PS3 if RROD didn't happen. If anything they would just have a bigger lead. But even with the problems MS had, the 360 is still ahead of the PS3 by a pretty large number. In my opinion, that really shows how badly Sony messed up with the PS3.

If MS didn't have to deal with RROD and had more big name exclusives, it's JRPG were top notch, then the lead over Sony would've been about double what it is now.

Where do u get these Xbox Live for cheaper and how much is it?

Also in the UK Microsoft have been offering 12 months Live for £31 on a promotion offer for quite awhile now, which reminds me I may aswell renew now

Have they told gamers to get a second job or that 5 million Kinects would sell at launch even if there were no games for it?  There's your answer to them being as arrogant as Sony was.

The Kinect launch event reveals a massive disrespect for enthusiast gamers that overshadows the actual tech on display.

Microsoft have been making some very arrogant and defensive statements since the Kinect announcement. I think the point of this thread is to point how Sony have learnt their launch lesson's, but Microsoft is resorting to the old Sony.



Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I disagree (unless you are referring to old sony). Sony's price for their system ,considering all it can do, is great and their game lineup for 2011 looks amazing unlike the xbox's.

Microsoft is confident.  Why wouldn't they be since most gamers (including myself) expected them to be in distant third and "on the ropes" for this generation by now.

As for their pricing, new stuff is always priced high.  It is a little business law called supply and demand.  Sony was only mocked earlier in the generation because they very few gamers can afford to pay $600 for a console, and in the first year the only real highlight franchise was Resistance and Motorstorm.

Microsoft is confident but between Sony and Microsoft, Microsoft is the only one that is focusing on delivering hard core games since March.  Sony fans are in quite the exclusive/timed exclusive losing streak.  It started in March after the release of God of War III and will end when Socom 4 and Killzone 3 ships in February-ish (At least Microsoft got third parties to release Mass Effect 2 and Metro 2033 in that time frame).  Since the release of God of War III Microsoft has won the exclusive/timed exclusives with Splinter Cell Conviction, Alan Wake, and Crackdown 2.  For the holiday's Microsoft will put Halo Reach and Fable III up against LBP2 and GT5. 

The sales war for this holiday is already lost for Sony.  Of course Microsoft is confident.
