Forums - Sony - CNBC: Move is "Something I Didn't Know I Wanted Until I Picked It Up"

You know i heard that MS were doing something with Kinect in US malls where people could try out the device i'm not sure if thats true, but surely after reading this Sony would be better off doing that type of hands on marketing as well!! if not then i dont think Move will be a huge hit, because you have to experience it to love it, but people arnt going to even bother imo.

they are putting move demo stations with Sony reps all over the country for this exact reason.

Bugger.  Lost my comment.  Too big to retype so here's the bullet points:

- good coverage for Move

- Sony have said Move will be more of a grower (if it takes off at all) and I agree and it chimes with this coverage and your view

- Sony are exploiting Move to cover both existing and upcoming core titles as well as casual Move titles, so they have good chance of existing owner sales and would probably be okay if Move only appealed to existing owners

- MS currently are really pushing Kinect for new owners, so I think they need to hope it doesn't just end up being for existing owners as at launch it offers almost nothing for them except for a new interface experience.

- Luckily for MS in US and UK they have a fair number of very loyal fans who I'm sure will buy Kinect just for the interface and to support MS

- Still, overall Move looks like the less risky product to me.  Familiar thanks to its similarity to the Wii.  Easier to develop a title for Move/Wii vs Kinect (due to different input approaches).  More able (thus far on the evidence) to fully support core titles and augment core titles as well as of course support new Move specific titles.  Kinect is riskier I think - brave move by MS it should be noted - as it is quite different, doesn't seem yet to offer much in the way of augmented support or full support for existing titles/genres and would I believe require more effort to have Wii type titles ported to it.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I still dont think the move will succeed. There is really no hype for it at all...

That's the short version?

Yup.  You write a great, informative essay and the internet eats it!  Here's the shorter version just for you:

Move would appear to have the accuracy to match expectations and the breadth of titles to appeal to both existing and new owners.

Kinect remains focused, in terms of titles and marketing, on new owners.

Conclusion - expect steady good coverage for Move and a decent uptake via existing owners.  Kinect, unless existing owners surprise me with an interest in the launch titles or impressive loyalty for an expensive accessory, will be more reliant on convincing new owners to go for it.

In london, most news media are hailing Kinect as the 2nd coming of gaming so...yeah...kinda.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

the media arent gamers, theyr just the media. i cant imagine one halo/gears fan who is excited about jumping up and down. even though it doesnt show that move is going to be a sucess among ps3 fans it is going to be one. the core titles will make it a sucess.

So when the media is hyped, it's not real hype? It's only when core gamers are hyped that it really matters?
