Forums - Gaming - Duke Nukem Forever at Pax Confirmed (Pic from floor Inside)

this game is going to flop so hard.

There is no interest in buying the game. The interest is just making fun of it.

It's not moving the goalposts when I say there are no games. All PC exclusive games apart from Crisis 1 are designed for medium PCs which are no more powerful than a PS3 or X360.

All those higher resolutions, AA, framerate increases etc give marginal effects. I'm a PC gamer so I know.

You have yet to explain to me what games have to do with power.

"Because the differences between the Wii and the HD consoles is more or less the exact same difference between the HD consoles and the PC. So it is kind of extremely hypocritical for someone to include the 360 and the PS3 in the same sentence as the PC, yet not include the Wii in the ones with the PS3 and the 360. It is also kind of hilarious in a very pathetic sort of way"

But it's not hypcritical to include PS3 and X360 games with PC games because they play in the same league, while Wii games graphically are in last gen.

It is still a very true statement, in terms of power 1% of PCs, but not the other 99%, make the PS3 and 360 look like a PS2 when compared to those two. You can include them, but that's the games, not the platform itself.

Fixed.

Back on topic, this is all I can think of: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/748-Duke-Nukem-Forever

I seriously can't believe DN:F is actually coming out. GearBox ftw.

Thence we came forth

Are we counting overall PCs or ones built for gaming? Because I would be VERY hardpressed to build a PC right now that is as weak as a console. The end result is the same, the PC by now is in a league of its own, and putting it on the level of the HD consoles is just idiotic.

For the sake of internet meltdowns I hope this won't be average.

No it's not idiotic. At this point in last gen there was a significant difference between PC games and consoles - Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 on PC looked much better than the Xbox versions and Battlefield 2 and Rome: Total War looked much better than Halo 2 and Medal of Honor: Frontile.

But in this generation Bad Company 2 and Call of Duty Black Ops on PC don't look any better than the PS360 versions and PC exclusives like STALKER: Call of Prpyat, EMPIRE: Total War and The Witcher 2 don't look better than Uncharted 2, Alan Wake or The Last Guardian.

I am not happy with Duke being on consoles due to console limitations*, but I would rather have it be included on consoles than not be released at all.

*  And by this I do not mean graphical limitations since the engine is not state of the art at this point anyway.  I mean that Duke should get an AO rating, but we all know Gearbox will water it down for the M since Sonysoft (Microsony?) won't allow AO games on their consoles - lamers.

If they would agree to release the full (uncensored) version for the PC along with the lamified console version then I'd be fine.

For the record - as to the PC versus console battle above...

My computer is a hexacore 980X with 12 GB ram, SSD and 5850.  I use it for AV editing, the games I play on it most these days are Starcraft 2 and Diablo 2 (which don't require even a eighth of it's power).  And I play my Wii far more than my PS3.

This should illustrate that personal taste in fun far outweighs technical specifications anyway.  So, why the heated argument?

Even if it is. People would most likey have a heavy bias to it.

@bolded: I didn't even think about that until you reminded me... This really sucks, luckily on PC we can patch lamified games, like I did with Fallout 2, as the gaming magazine I got it with had bundled the UK version, IIRC...

Yeah, I agree that patches can be had, but I think we would all prefer a store-bought uncensored release to fan-made patches.  I would even pay a reasonable price premium for the true Duke experience.
