Forums - Sales - EMEAA UP 28. august

Seeing what the temporary price cut did in the UK for the Wii last week, I wonder if certain members will still insist that software alone is what moves consoles... I've lost count of how many times I've had that discussion in here, price is really important.

Sales are decent, 360 still doing great numbers and will likely settle around the 70-75k mark then all is said and done but by then the holiday season will be close to kicking in. PS3 not doing so great imo, up only 12% from last year (didn't the Slim launch this week last year?), could start to go stagnant at the current price point in EMEAA. Wii keeps on heading downhill, PSP will be at its deathbed this time next year and sorely needs a successor at this point. DS stilll doing extremely well, especially when factoring in the age of the system by now. Nintendo refuses to rework the Wii to spark hardware sales but hasn't the endless DS models, the PS3 Slim and 360 Slim shown that it works like hell? How about a price cut and a new model, Nintendo?

Of course price is important. Watch next week what the ps3 slim/price cut does to its YoY sales.

£30 ($46) I think and yeah temporary

Even with Wii price cut in U.K 360 stills leading the race... i guess nothing can stop 360 in U.K this year and with Reach , Fable 3 , Black Ops and Kinect coming soon it will be fun to watch 360 "killing" Wii this year in U.K.

In a way though it was more than a re-design.  I think the new 360s has thrown off (unless things go horribly wrong for MS which I'm not expecting) the RROD image finally.  The re-design helps, as it's far more attractive in Others I believe with the additional WiFi and size.

Finally, the timing was good, coming at a peak of Kinect coverage and hype.

At this stage the 360 still isn't the console for me, but MS have played the last few months very well and are getting good results which seems fair enough.

The only real negative I can see is the fact SW hasn't risen for the 360 in line with the HW.  PS3 seems to be shifting more SW in Others and it's odd to see RDR, as an example, sell more in weekly sales on PS3 despite the big 360 surge.

I'm convinced that a lot of the new owenrs are (quite sensibly I suppose) raiding the second hand market to grab a decent library cheap.

The reason I see this as the only real negative is of course third party developers will no doubt be taking note that so far the new release is only really benefiting MS rather than themselves and given how vocal they are about used games sales are probably wishing new owners could only buy games new vs second hand.

But really, the 360s launch has been very successful for MS and it's going to be an interesting holiday season in both US and Europe.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
