Forums - Gaming - Is it just me or is the 360 low on exclusives in 2011 vs the PS3?

How is Rare near death? They're making Kinect Sports, which looks ok, and they've been doing all the Avatar stuff, which has been very profitable, certainly more than you can say for their latest projects. Answer me this Stage, why is it ok to put Perfect Dark to rest and not Twisted Metal? Your logic abounds with double standards, which I've already pointed out by you having FF XIV on the PS3 list.

Rare was once a AAA company...now reduced to creating entry titles for entry level gamers. While their games this gen have been enjoyable to most I've truly been waiting for a noteworthy Rare title that could remind me of the Rare I grew up. As far as I'm concerned Rare is dead.

Nuts and Bolts is one of the most creative and enjoyable games I've played this gen.  Too many wrote it off because it didn't stick tightly to the formula of its predecessors which caused them to miss out on a true treat.  Its so sad that so many 360 gamers passed on it, but the FUD about it (360 'Mature' loudmouths, PS3 LBP fundamentalists AND 'Wii miss Rare with us' zealots all trashed it) made it a  lose-lose situation in a lot of ways.  Very sad.

Oh well, me and others sure had a blast.

Man the 360 crowd sure is fired up over this one.   The truth of the matter is though, PS3 owners aren't sweating bullets waiting for more games to come out or be announced.   More games will definitely be announced from here until the end of 2011 for the PS3.

The 360 owners on the other hand have to absolutely pray and hope that Microsoft has plans for games beyond Gears 3 to last them all of 2011.  Because, it doesn't matter who you are.  That list is very barren.  And while I am sure it will grow....Will it grow even remotely enough to matter?

Uncharted 3 alone would equal the 360 lineup of Gears of War 3.  Everything else is just icing on the cake.  Kill Zone 3 is arguably comparable to and at worst a small step below those two games.  Which again just further tips the scales. Twisted Metal is a huge franchise with a solid fanbase and following it may Metacritic in the 80s but it will have a hardcore following.   Resistance  has been a solid B level franchise since day one the PS3.  3 will likely continue this.  Infamous again is a franchise hovering around Uncharted / Kill Zone status....Looks to be greatly improved over the first one.   Last Guardian is to iffy to be released in my opinion but I am hopeful and FFXIV doesn't interest me since it's almost definitely timed exclusive.

Kinect and Move don't belong in this yet because quite honestly either one could completely flop and fail.  (If I were betting, I would bet Kinect but that is just a different story for a different day).  To my eyes, the Move lineup is superior anyways with more titles to boot and it appears more titles are being given legacy support for Move (See Heavy Rain) or included support with Move and Regular control options (See LBP2/Killzone 3). Something that I really haven't seen too much out of Kinect yet.  And to even further the point, there is a strong chance that a lot of third party Wii games will make their way over exclusively to Wii/PS3 because of similarity in controls.

Why's that? Are Xbox 360 owners allergic to playing anything but exclusives? And I'm sure as hell not sweating bullets waiting for games to be announced. I've got plenty of stuff coming out this year and next year that I want to play, but please, do keep generalizing.

Surely not.   I think we all can agree that the best efforts from all three consoles have been the exclusive ones however.  If I were buying a console on January 1st 2011 and looking at the upcoming library?  The 360 would be behind  Nintendo and the PS3 in terms of desired software lineups.

Your very defensive presence throughout this thread insisting that you are perfectly fine playing what will more than likely amount to mostly average third party efforts is not generalizing.  It's calling a spade a spade.

I know personally as a 360 owner,  I have higher hopes for the library other than Gears 3.....

*steps on soapbox*

Calling a spade a spade? If no one calls you out on it, it looks like there's a perception of truth to what you say, then if someone does, it leads me to being pointed out as defensive. Let's call a spade a spade after all, am I right? I'm getting tired of this site and its style of arguing that doesn't rely on facts, but instead labelling the opposition in an attempt to discredit them. Riddle me this if you will: who on January 1, 2011 is buying a new console and completely ignoring the past 5 years of games on these systems? I'm dying to hear the answer to this one.

So since you think I'm dishonest, I'll go ahead and list all the games I'm interested in next year:

1. Dragon Age II

2. Rage

3. Mortal Kombat

4. Dead Space 2

And I'll go ahead and throw the stuff releasing this year that I'm not buying until next year as well:

5. AC: Brotherhood

6. Fallout: New Vegas

7. Arcania: Gothic 4

8. Two Worlds II

But wait, I'm sorry. These are all "average" third party efforts. I'm sorry for not playing the games you want me to, your freaking lordship.

Now please, feel free to go ahead and talk about 360 owners crying sleepless nights, because they have no games to play or some such nonsense, or better yet, continue to "call a spade a spade" and label me as "defensive," but please stop acting like there are no games coming out for the 360 and that we're all begging and praying for games, and freaking stop implying that I'm lying just because you seem to think the 360 has no games coming next year that are anything above "average."

*picks up soapbox and walks away*

That said, give it up.  They just don't view things as you do.  Everything has to be a comparison, a competition.  There always has to be a winner.

But, again, I applaud your impassioned and factually accurate defense.  Its refreshing to see someone enjoy the great things they have instead of always looking around to see if someone drives a better car than them . . .

Just remember that exact same thing was said about the Xbox 360's 2010 lineup back in 2009 and it looks like the system has at least three games in the running for GOTY,  two of which can only be played on Xbox 360 in 2010 and the other with the 360 having the superior console version.

Red dead redemption (PS3/360)

Mass effect 2 (PS3/360)

Maybe Halo reach (360)

while the ps3 has..

God of war III (PS3)

Gran turismo 5 (PS3)

Little big planet 2 (PS3)

Red dead redemption (PS3/360)

Mass effect 2 (PS3/360)

Sure mass effect 2 is coming out in january for ps3, but you threw the "360 has the superior red dead" comment and I can fight back with , PS3 has the far superior Mass effect 2 based on Content alone..

I hate getting into list wars, but the fact of the matter is, not only has the ps3 consistenly for 3 years straight 08,09,10 had the best line up of games this gen on a console, but 2011 is looking better than ever before..

360 did well in 2006, 2007, but after that the ps3 really has gotten most of the AAA ip from both 3rd party and the best 1st party.

Am I being biased? Maybe, but metacritic doesn't lie

The point of the post is obvious, the 360 does NOT have a bad line up this year or the next, in fact It has an amazing line up, for 2010 and 2011, but the ps3 has more ip coming out than the 360 does which may relfect AAA stature on metacritic.

You cannot be serious...

Past Avatar picture!!!

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

yes I am serious, because GAMETRAILERS said halo reach isn't that good

(IN FACT the editor in chief, SHANE SATTERFILED... yea I know.. said he found the game behind compared to another shooter on another console)

so that made it serious... ...serious

Yeap It's looking light but what can you do?  Even in 2009 it was only really Forza 3, Halo ODST and Halo Wars and IMHO Magna Carta 2 was awesome. Star Ocean ended up being a timed exclusive.

This year we still got five big ones (Splinter Cell Conviction, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2 even if It's timed, Halo Reach, Fable III)

We got a few decent ones as well - Crackdown 2, Perfect Dark Remake (underated) and various Kinect titles.

Kinect's biggest so far looks to be Dance Central.

The problem is MS is focusing on Kinect right now - so a majority of the exclusive games from MS will most likely be Kinect related in the future.

When MS dumped Bizare studios and Esemble I had a feeling they were going to go down in exclusive titles. However their third party titles are getting stronger every year so It's all good.

It's just that simple.

nice damage control, but the PS3 has as many GOTY candidates this year, and NONE of them are/will be playable on a 360, EVER, those are GOD OF WAR 3, GRAN TURISMO 5 and LITTLE BIG PLANET 2.

I guess you are referring to Mass Effect 2 (yeah, in 2010, WHO CARES! no longer exclusive and if I only have a PS3 I can wait!). Red Dead Redemption for GOTY? Halo Reach is your third game right? well, 2 of those are on PS3 sorry your pride just got an auto-hit lol. Don't force it dude, just buy the fricking PS3 and enjoy games.

Ah yes, and because Gametrailors said so it must be true. Seriously, if it really has all the content Bungie says it does, and if the campaign is anything like it looks, and if the multiplayer is anything like the Beta...well then the guys over at Gametrailors are idiots.

They've most likely played the proper game, you haven't, so the thing's they say have alot more credibility than us forum goers. The Halo: Reach praise so far from the general gaming media hasn't been universal, so I wouldn't call the guys at GameTrailers idiots just because they disagree with your unproven opinion. That's not cool. I also don't think Leo-J should have brought Halo" Reach up, but he didn't call the guys at GameTrailers idiots.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I really have to say a few sentences about Rare.

Rare really made some great things this gen. Avatars, Kameo, Banjo & Kazooie etc etc.
Just look at the stuff they did only this gen:

  • Kameo
  • Viva Pinata
  • Viva Pinata 2
  • Avatars
  • Banjo Kazooie Nuts n Bolts
  • Perfect Dark (HD XBLA Remake)
  • Perfect Dark Zero
  • Banjo Kazooie (HD XBLA Remake)
  • Banjo Tooie (HD XBLA Remake)
  • Kinect Sports

That is A LOT. Probably more than any other 1st party developer this gen. And they did not even make a "high budget" game. Games like GTA IV, Halo Reach, Uncharted cost a shitload to develop. It took years to create these games and a lot of money to build and advertise them. You never saw this for any kind of Rare-title.

Give them a high budget and just let they work on a huge game for more than 1 or 2 years. The result will be fantastic.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
