Nintendo are buying tech from Sharp an electronics company. I'm sure they could of bought the same or better from Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, Samsung etc. Nintendo are just jumping on the 3D bandwagon. Apparently though Nintendo pioneered motion control AND 3D. You couldnt make it up...

Why is Nintendo being pioneer on 3D as a whole?

It isn't. 3DS = iPhone. It didn't pioneered touch screen cell phones, but brought it to a whole new league.

3DTV was developed in the Nineties at several German research facilities. The problems were/are simply too numerous when trying to mass manufacture these thingies. You can use the same method as Nintendo is using with the 3DS. This will make one viewer, and one viewer only, very happy while s/he sits at the "sweet spot", the rest of the family gets headaches. You can build TVs that render an entire group of people happy, but that costs a fortune (basically you need to transmit 2 pictures for very watcher and tricky optics). Also people actually need to be trained for 3D watching (you need to focus to the tv front surface and not to the perceived depth at all times which causes headaches for some people).

The philips glassless 3DTV are quite awesome. They can be viewed on a large angle by multiple person at the same time, without any kind of training whatsoever. But they are in fact really really expensive.
Sony said Nintendo shouldn't bash 3d glasses with 3DS and now Sony are making 3D glasses free TV... I dont understand them.
Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,
mario maker
new 3ds
yoshi woolly world
zelda U
majora's mask 3d
3D TV sets are entering the mainstream through stealth not because consumers want them but because it is included. When they produce sets that do not require glasses that work and have no side effects and does not cause problems with the 2D image we may actually start to see 3D sets starting to become of interest to the consumer but we are still a number of years away from that. I think 2012 will be the year of the 3D TV.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.You speculate too much guys. I have 3D tv at home working with my PS3 and I can tell you that the 3D effect is beyond amazing. Glasses free tvs will be available in the future but not for at least 4-5 years. Glasses are light, fit over your own glasses if you wear them.

it's not even that, the effect will be great, but no it's not and here is why:
Even though Sharp isn't the first to the game (Hitachi introduced a handset with a stereoscopic IPS display with Japanese carrier KDDI in Japan last year), the company plans to launch its new device internationally. We say, bring it on, and throw a picture or two of the handset our way, so we know what we're looking out for.

Nintendo is doing to it's 3DS that these companies are doing for their Smartphone's
