Sony Ericsson bring the battle to MS with PSN on devices

February 22nd, 2010 | Author: WenWM

Last week at MWC Windows Phone 7 Series was announced, and with that came some big news from Sony Ericsson’s CEO. The news of WP7S and its great integration with Xbox live didn’t sit to well with Howard Stringer CEO of Sony Ericsson. In a recent interview he made his intentions clear with the announcement that they would be working on Playstation Network integrate with their devices.

Howard Stringer CEO of Sony Ericsson-

“PSN is no secret weapon. Leveraging PSN we are building a new network service that will connect many more network enabled product including Sony Bravias, Viaos and Blu-ray players. To satisfy the demand for more open systems and to broaden the array of network devices connected to our network services we are committed to extending that service to Sony Ericsson mobile phones.

As part of these initiatives we are also exploring consistent user interfaces across Sony Ericsson products to ensure a seamless and integrated experience for the consumer.”

This news seems a little rushed, and it is most likely was pressured by Microsoft’s announcement of their new OS. Lets see what can come out of this, because this sort of competition can only end up being for the good. For Many Playstation 3 owners that have been awaiting a PSP phone, this could be what they have been waiting for.

So this will be limited to Sony Ericsson phones only? That will make it harder to compete with WP7 when that will be on most major manufacturer's phones.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Well the most major manuf. smart phones is now android at this point Microsoft's WP7 has a steep hill to climb. Not to say they cannot do it, but at this point Microsoft' uphill climb is very steep, in the mobile market.

as for Sony only devices for PSN access

maybe or maybe not there is not any talk about what other devices outside of Sony only products this will be accessed to PSN, though already PC's have access to parts of PSN so it's in the card's depending on how much sony is going to open the PSN platform up. Sony have already been working with getting Google's Android OS to be included into product's from TV's to EBOOK READER'S, TO Cell phones.

Sony i think is looking to expand the PSN service across as much as they can, because PSN seem's to be making some great ROi at this point it may not be out of the Question to allow more than just Sony only devices to get this benefit of PSN service access who know's we will soon find out though.

read this interview:

NEA’s Interview With Sir Howard Stringer – A Knight In Sony Armor

this is very straight forward:

So you think by better understanding your customers, you’ll find a way through?

We have to become a company that can open the window and say, “Look, we don’t just design technology because we love technology. We design technology because we understand that our customers are different.” We can no longer say that we’re right and our customers are wrong. We can’t build only what we want to build.

Right now is an excellent opportunity for consumer electronics companies to improve their understanding of consumers.

Sony is moving toward a more open standard's

The fact that Sony is putting Intel chipset's in their TV's and Google's Android OS is a sign that Sony is really moving toward a change in their IDEAS and the old guard of Sony before has to change in order to meet these new challenges.

this is not the old Sony.

not really

SONY has said in the past and on CES this year

that they are going to use PSN as their main online network across all devices

but it will be limited

like they spoke of introducing PSN on bravia for movie downloading and retal and netflix and other features

it could provide spones music downloading service

i think thing's have changed..for one :

the ceo:

Sony Ericsson CEO hints at PSP Phone at MWC 2010

Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg has revealed the company is working much more closely with its parent Sony, and is focusing firmly on the home environment for its future phones.

Nordberg said that future Sony TVs, PCs and stereos, and Sony Ericsson mobiles will all have a common communications interface – DLNA – and that Sony Ericsson’s phones will be much more tightly integrated into Sony’s home entertainment product range.

Nordberg went on to say

In the past, there was no tie-up between us [Sony Ericsson], the PSP platform and Sony, but you can expect to hear much more about that. Sir Howard Stringer’s [chairman of Sony] presence here is no coincidence.”

So, Sony Ericsson PSP phone anyway? It’s been rumoured for years now, makes so much sense, and with Microsoft integrating XBox Live onto its Windows Phone 7 OS, is ultimately inevitable.

the point is he listed the PSP as tie-up sell...more games is the goal..the more software sales the better.

the fact that Android is going into the bravia line of TV's which means not just TV function's but also application's and Games!

remember 70% of all aplications on the iphone is Games!

Sony ceo's see this. the closest challenger to that % is Android at this time Android has surpassed even the number of devices of the iphone and the Ipad that are in the market, and i phone was first to the market. that means there are more devices which run android on them to take advantage of software sales than there are iphone and ipads.

Sony want's a inroad into that market.
