Forums - Microsoft - Kinect won't feature voice chat, voice command or video chat at launch!

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=261517

Here's some bad news for those of you looking to ahem, 'jump in' when Microsoft's Xbox 360 motion cam, Kinect arrives this November; voice chat and voice command functionality will not be included at launch.

That's what Xbox Live EMEA marketing man, Robin Burrowes told trade mag MCV. Apparently, Microsoft "will be announcing when voice control will be turned on in due course," says Burrowes, which is disappointing.

The platform holder's also confirmed that another of Kinect's premier features, 'Video Kinect' chat software, will also not feature as part of the camera's launch.

Previous demonstrations of Kinect have shown users switching between media and dashboard functions simply by 'speaking' to the motion cam. See it in action here.

The functionality has been touted as one of the reason why hardcore games may be keen to pick up the device - indeed it looks cool and was one of the reasons we were looking forward to picking up Kinect on day one.

Expectedly we're disappointed to hear that the voice functionality won't be initially included, but at least we'll be able to have a chat in Kinectimals.

Oh come on! They can't be fucking serious, the voice commands are one of the things that make Kinect awesome! They better not delay it for long!

And they still want 150$ for it?

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/

Bad move. The more i hear about kinect, the more functions seem to be taken out.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Does this mean that all the demo's that were "using" the voice control were fake?

Does this also mean that people who don't have there 360 connected online will miss out on key advertised features of Kinect forever?

Yes and most likely yes.

I doubt the demos were fake, I'm guessing Microsoft just didn't think it was ready for primetime just yet. To my knowledge, we've only seen it work in english, so maybe they are having issues with other languages? (If it even supports other languages...)

Yes, no voice command, no video chat, no multilayer for 4 people and only of copies of the the Wii games... C'mon Microsoft where is innovation?

Certainly not with the Sony, Move.  Besides this has already been debunked, now haters will have to hate with something else.
