Atheism implies what you don't beleive in, not what you do believe in. Plus, ignoring science is stupid (like those people who refuse to have operations or blood transfusions because it's against their religion) is just plain stupid regardless of your religious beliefs (or lack therefore).

And you're lucky that your folks won't be upset with you. Mine definately would.

One thing I know atheists believe in would be free thinking and open-mindedness. Not that any of the technicalities matter anyway. You can say that atheism isn't a religion, but even succeeding that, what has been proven? Nothing. Followers of the Abrahamic God like to make sure they have the basis for a religion defined as the belief in a god, mainly so they can put belief systems that don't include gods on a tier below their own.

And now that I think of it, my grandparents and maybe a couple of my friends may be disturbed by it, but tough nuts, right?

Just to clear up your religion debate guys. Atheism isnt a religion, religion necessitate believing in something sacred, being in relation with it. Also, not believing in something means you believe it doesnt exist. To that extend, atheism is a belief as is a religion. We are often mistaking atheism with agnostism. Atheism is a belief because your negating the relation to something sacred even tough you dont have factual proof to do so. While Agnostism means suspending your judgement on the question, its nor believing nor not believing. Hope it helps ; )!
