For PSP?

So far yes.

S-E is depending on the sales results of this version to ponder whether to make a console version, so hopefully it will be successful.

They really shouldn't be doing that, because in the West as its on PSP I doubt it'll do that well, Japan is another matter, lets hope its a massive success there.

And that could mean we get a PS3 one!

Unfortunately that's the main issue facing 3rd Birthday right now. Other S-E games on PSP have been somewhat successful in terms of sales on the PSP, but the amount of downloads easily surpass the amount of sales. Dissidia had it the worst, with 5M downloads

I hope that 3rd Birthday doesn't suffer from this fate, but that's the most likely scenario.

We can at least hope its a big success in Japan though, thats where piracy is the least I think.

Yup, but that might end in the next PE being released in JP only.

Then the best thing for them to do is to check piracy numbers and how much each region has, that'll give them a sign of where the potential lies.

EU regions would be screwed then

But PS3 is region free

True The original Parasite Eve situation in EU won't happen again, if they release an US version only XD

I know that, I was just summarizing things as succinctly as possible. And even then I don't see how time warps factor into genetic science on ANY level. The series had me at animals warping into monsters, it didn't need time shenanigans.

Well, Eve had all sort of crazy powers in the first game, and we saw some more powerful mitochondria forms in the second game, with the ability of creating giant nest like creatures, just like the ones shown in the trailer (remember the Coccon in the Ark?).

So, if there's a link to the previous games, maybe mitochondrial powers have evolved  to the point where mitochondrial beings are able to control time or matter? with the energy controlling abilities that they had, it seems kinda "logical".

That's REEEEEEEEALLY stretching disbelief. All that mitchondria are capable of doing is generating chemical energy, period. In the previous two games the most you would see is creatures rapidly mutating or people getting set on fire due to their mitochondria generating absurd amounts of energy. Heck, in the original novel there weren't mutating animals at all. Makes me wonder if Sena (a lecturer of microbiology) would be going "WTF?" at this. Then again Square has repeatedly reminded people that this is a SIDE STORY and not a sequel.

Dude, I know all of this, Parasite Eve was one of the reasons I went into Genetics in the first place

Even then, if you take in consideration the vast amount of energy that ATP production and massive consumption that happened in the first two games,  it's also a huge stretch to kinda explain the energy propagations that happened in the first two games, with PE2 being the biggest case.

As for the original novel, I loved it as well, especially the relationship that establishes with the scientist and the being created, the original ultimate being.

Being a Side Story doesn't take from the fact that this game will have a lot of tie-ins with the previous PE lore, heck, even Nomura said it himself. So there might be an explanation for the Time Warps and such.

Not so much, the human body emits ENORMOUS amounts of energy. Have everything emit energy at once and you'd burn. PE2 stretched things in a reasonable direction due to technology being involved. Time Warps and stuff are barely science fiction because SCIENCE is barely involved; most of that came from a small theory Einstein had about time and space forming a continuum that bends, arcs, or warps from the observer's point of view and even then most stuff involving time travel is technobabble (like Doctor Who for instance). Heck, I'm actually flabbergasted as to why Square thought cramming time shenanigans in was a good thing despite the fact that the series already had a foundation that was properly set up and fine as it was.

lol shall we wait until the game is out to debate on things like this? and it's a VIDEO game for crying out loud :P for all we know they will call it a 'mysterious new phenomenon that our sciences can not comprehend' lead to all this and BAM!

and btw peepz, what do you think of the damage model they are using in the game, about clothes getting torn apart and more bruising on her as she loses health. I think it's refreshing

Looking good. I only hope they add more weapon sounds, the one was pretty annoying and I heard it a lot. Also, I'm not so sure about the battle system. It could work, but it could be boring. Only time will tell I suppose.

The human body emits a huge amount of energy, but nowhere near the level that PE had shown Human Spontaneous Combustion is a possible theory, but that would involve "burning" the entire ATP stock at the same time, while the mitochondria has a continuous output feed of ATP by consuming massive levels of Glucose. Possible but hardly, hardly feasible, that's why what happens in PE is in the same category of science-fiction as Time Warps

Yup, that damage model is actually rather interesting. I hope we can upgrade her clothing and see the different effects of the damage model itself on different types of armourment.
