Forums - Sony - Mass Effect 2 On PlayStation 3 Will Provide “Seamless Introduction"

Think of how Yakuza 3 did with 1 and 2 when it was released.

Mass Effect 2 On PlayStation 3 Will Introduce Players To The Universe, Say Bioware.

After the initial excitement of Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3 died down yesterday, many people were curious how they would bridge the story elements of the first game for those who didn’t play it. The original game was funded and published by Microsoft, so there was no way they’d let up exclusivity rights for the title. It’s also a vastly inferior game when compared with the improvements made by the sequel.

Cornered by VG247, Bioware’s Ray Muzyka has revealed that the PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2 will include a “seamless introduction” to the Mass Effect universe, hinting that they’re not taking story concerns lightly.

“We’re making sure there’s a really seamless introduction to the world of Mass Effect, for players that haven’t experienced it before,” he said.

“So even though it’s Mass Effect 2 specifically, we’re making sure there’s a nice introduction experience, that provides the back-story and the things that have happened up to that point in the universe, and makes it a really seamless introduction.

“We haven’t revealed what that is yet. It’ll be something that provides a good introduction and provides a lot of the back-story and introduces you well to the story-arc, and kind of makes you feel like you’re part of it all. And then you can jump right into the action in Mass Effect 2.”

Muzyka also added that the Cerberus Network – Mass Effect’s DLC system – would be in full effect on the PlayStation 3 SKU.

“I guess in terms of what the Cerberus Network represents, it really represents a lot of content, it represents a lot of post-release support, and we… do want make sure the PS3 fans get that experience in as full away as possible,” he said.

“But we’ll reveal more of that over time.”

Pushed on whether the announcement of Mass Effect 2 for PlayStation 3 would mean a multiformat future for the franchise, Ray responded that it would be a “good guess”.

“That’d be a good guess, but we haven’t announced any details on any future formats or anything, or even formally announced Mass Effect 3 yet, although there’s a natural assumption that there will be a Mass Effect 3 as it’s a trilogy. We’ve said that and more or less confirmed it, but we haven’t announced any details on the product yet, or the platforms.

“EA is a company that wants to support different platforms, reach different audiences; we’re part of EA and we want to make sure we can embrace that as well. I think we’re trying to do that with all of our products, whether it’s Dragon Age or Mass Effect.”

So there you have it, Bioware’s taking the plot aspect of the PS3 port very seriously, and from what we can tell that might result in some additional content for PlayStation 3 owners. We’re sure Bioware will want to reveal the full details in their own time, but we’re confident of them delivering a full experience for PlayStation 3.

Mass Effect 2’s due in January and we really couldn’t be more excited.

i thought they would do this, no way can Mass Effect 2 be played without understanding what is happening, so this is a good news for PS3 owners.

It's still worse than having ME1&2 on one blu ray disc and importing character from 1 over to 2. Loads of interesting stuff and decisions one has to make which directly affects ME2 will be missed. Also ME1 is much more RPG than ME2 which became more of a third person shooter. I actually perferred the story in ME1.

These guys aren't idiots, they will give a nice lil intro to the series for all...I bet a lot of people will shut up once they give more details

and free dlc? Bonus

I think it might be a step further than Yakuza....as in a stripped down version of the first Mass Effect with just the main missions. This way important decisions can carry over and not so much time is spent porting a 3 year old game.

It would be funny if the PS3 version included both games and they called it 'Mass Effect 2 Extended Edition' or something like that. Wasn't the first LotR game like that? Or simply said Mass Effect 2 will provide 'seamless introduction'. That way the first ME would still be MS exclusive, sort of, despite not really being. Anyway, not going to happen, just came up with this funny thought.

I'm not getting the PS3 version, if any version at all, but I'm eager to see what they can come up with.

The best thing I can expect in this came is a story mode only ME1 included within ME2. Most likely it won't happen though. But it would be nice.

theres really nothing bioware can do here, they might have to give an optional set of already made decisions i dont know bioware are pretty smart maybe the decisions from ME1 wont change much in ME3

This is what they will do. I expect Bioware to have all of the decisions to be made which include all carry over players from the first game. (so the decisions would default to not killing people in the first game).

I dont think anyone would be alienated by seeing some new person in the universe without much explanation of who they are, if this is the case, then I am sure a new opening cinematic movie will recap every discrepency.
