Using the data below I think we can all agree that logically it doesn't make sense. There is something off in the VGC accounting for hte PS3 overall. However, I don't think it is just being undertracked in Europe, but probably overtracked in other regions.

So, in total VGC isn't off by much, especially not any amount to make anybody scream OMG PS3 IS REALLY WINNING!!!!!

I bet VGC is off by less than 1m worldwide if there were a way to know exactly how much shifted to the end user.

VGC Americas VCG Japan VGC Others VGC % of total sales
 PS3     14,310,511    5,307,180    16,164,502 45%

Sony Europe Sony % of total ship On Shelves in Europe % of total on shelves
   18,000,000 47%    1,835,498 83%

VGC Total Sony Total On Shelves Total est on shelves amer/jp
   35,782,193    38,000,000    2,217,807               382,309

EMEAA is not same as EU. For EU vgchartz has PS3 at 13million.

Where do you get only EU numbers from. It seems Europe is bigger in Sony's use than just EU. Hence why I used Others as that is pretty much only Europe due to everyone else's sales being really small.

However, we must understand that this is all affected by Sony's rounding up of their numbers. They will always present stuff in a rounded up in PR dialogue within reason. So the totals are definitely off depending on how much up they really rounded. Was Europe really 17.5 million? Is worldwide really 37.5 million?

I removed middle east, africa and asia HW and Australia and New Zeland HW from others data. That gives us 13 million figure for the whole Europe.

One could suppose Europe here means everything falling under SCEE, which would mean Europe, Middle East and Africa I think. So it's not all of Others but it is bigger than just Europe.

yes probably Europe for Sony = EMEAA who knows. SCEE acts in all regions.

They really should clarify what they mean.. As in conference they said EU and not whole SCEE but maybe they meant whole SCEE. aarghh. I guess we will know the truth when they release their next quarter report. if the difference is still couple of million with vgchartz we have undertracked PS3 and if not they overshipped PS3 last quarter.

Its obvious that PS3 is undertracked in europe, and ioi not adjust the number for obvious reason, this site is anti-sony, ps3, psp and ps2, all ultra undertracked, and ioi make nothing, i´m a vgchartz fan, i loved, but, i want the most correct number, all its ok, except sony numbers...why, bad faith, see the last japan previous, all plataforms rising by obon holiday, except ps3, why?, why no adjusts in sony console number???????????

I disagree greatly

SONY ANNOUNCED 38.1 M LTD sales for ps3 as of JUNE 2010

Sony announced a 160GB PS3 today, and it is shipping today, the 120GB model did not receive a discount, which shows to me that there aren't much in stock to allow for a clearence price..

So how does that lead to 2 MILLION  consoles on store shelves? Makes zero sense, and I am not betting, but it would not suprise me if the consumer sales are off.. for ps3

mM

No one overship consoles, the retailers want more when the console sells, if no sales, no shipped console, it's obvious

only sony have consoles in the stock of retailers....its a joke

Sony announced a 160GB PS3 today, and it is shipping, the 120GB model did not receive a discount, which shows to me that they aren't much in stock..

So how does that lead to a 2 MILLION amount of consoles on store shelves? Makes zero sense, and I am not betting, but it would not surprise me if the consumer sales are off.. for ps3

1. I said at most 1m low, which would mean I think the number on shelves WORLDWIDE is actually closer to 1.2m not 2.2m.

2. That is a perfectly normal situation for any company, hell, 2m really isn't unexpected.

3. Sony announced the new skus for Europe, there is no way they intend on selling the 120gb unit for the same price as the 160gb unit. It will be discounted as a clearance price when the full NA details come out. Keep in mind this is just a HDD change and box change, so a change in production wasn't that costly in terms of time it takes. So, they could have made that switch easily and just started shipping the 160gb units almost seamlessly over the last couple of weeks.

4. The shipped numbers being discussed have nothing to do with the 160gb unit as these are rounded numbers from their quarterly report which ended months ago. As such you can't derive anything from the new skus that relates to what was shipped/sold back then.
