| ioi said: That all said, I am still a little puzzled by the gamrFeed comments thing - comments have definitely dropped significantly while story hits are pretty much in line with this time last year so people are reading but not commenting (or guests are reading and members are not I guess?)... |
If noone answered this specifically: There is a huge column of sh...stuff between the article and the comments section, and the page is ugly basically. I don't like being there.
We used to use the comments section like any other thread basically, because they were similar enough and felt the same (to me). But now that they are nothing like each other, people prefer to talk about those things in the forums.
I go to the site via vgchartz.com. Use the hub because it has the hottest topics section on which all my activity on this site is based.

I like the little symbol. I guess it's tough to please everyone.

For me it just needs to be easier to get a quick snapshot of the forum and then scan it and post. At the moment for one reason or another this can be a little time consuming.
Observations for the front page hot topics:
I cannot right click and open new tab on the subject of a hot topic but I can right click if the last posts link is lit. Just makes this a tad annoying to navigate around. I pretty much only use IE8.
Unfortunately the front page only provides hot topics although laid out nicely, if I want to see updates to posts I have subscribed to or where I have been quoted I then need to travel to the Gamerfeed section. Just seems a pointless visit really.
I really do miss the colour coded forum posts that used to exist for hot topics in the old VGC.
Observations for the Forums posts:
I cannot reply to forum posts if I am using my android phone to view the forum (HTC Desire 2.1) I can however make comments against news stories. Also do not get me started on how almost the entire site is a click away from that damn T Shirt ad.
Strip out all the crap that slows the forums down, that would be things like excessive images and ads.

Winner of the 2010 VGC Holiday sales prediction thread with an Average 1.6% accuracy rating. I am indeed awesome.
Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.(haven't read much of the thread i'm afraid, but wanted to say this) I liked the idea you had of having a customisable page for users, assuming it's possible it would be nice to be able to have the hot topics, most recent feed stories and chartz figures in a nice small list format.... as opposed to the huge space gamrfeed takes up currently (yes even in condensed view) The current homepage has gone someway towards that, but the gamrfeed section for example is a most popular rather than most recent, and sometimes I just can't be bothered going to gamerfeed itself, clicking condensed view each time (that's because I disable most cookies though, I know it would normally keep it condensed) then checking back.
Also for example I don't care about the reviews, the only reason I use that section of the site is because games without sales don't appear in the Chartz database, so it would be nice to be able to turn that off for some kind of custom page... if the custom page is not possible or a lot of work for little gain, then at least make it possible to view reverse chronoligical list of the gamrfeed stories on the current homepage.

HELL NO. Reviews have got a massive traffic boost from gamrReview, and you're not taking that away from us.

This is actually true. It is useful stuff, but it makes getting to the comments a pain.
It would be nice if the comments had basic formatting- Bold/Italic/Underline/Size. It would make them more similar to forum posts, and convince people to post. Also, the gamrReview comments really need to use the gamrFeed system and not that god awful wall post system without line breaks which you are still refusing to change
Many great ideas and observations in this thread.. Brett, you asked the question, so make sure you take this stuff on board.
I haven't read the whole thread, but when you switched your site lay out, I couldn't get the info I needed from the hub easily or effectivly so I just swithed to coming to the forums only, it was easier and quicker. Now that the hub is in better shape I am just used to coming to gamrconnect and I don't visit the other sites. I find them slightly confusing to navigate and to find things, I couldn't even find how to search the game database for awhile. The hub is better now, but you should bring back the ability to sort out hot topics by catagory. Thats what i miss the most.
