Forums - Sales - Mass Effect Sales - Bioware Marketing Manager

I don't think it's been posted yet but vgchartz.com's Mass Effect sales number has been a topic in Bioware's offical forums, and apperantly this has motivated a response from Jarett Lee their Marketing Manger. Here is what he had to say:

" Through official channels the current sales quantity (which I can't share, so don't ask ) is considerably better. Not sure about vgchartz's methodology."

Check it out here:(it's half way down on page 5 of the subject)

Why is that important at all? It's not like they gave a figure anyways, just that npd might tell a brighter story and hopefully prove the game sold more then vgcharts claims. I don't think a bunch of forum folk discrediting vgcharts is a big deal when the numbers are allegedly wrong after all.

I do hope ME sells well though, oblivion did so why not ME..

yes I do, because I would rather an amazing game get the respect it deserves in sales, so I hope it's wrong for the sake of ME sales.

Remember, the data this site tries to represent is more important then the sites name itself, if it's wrong then let forum people bitch, when the numbers start proving accurate that's when it's good to discredit vgcharts 'haters'.

While I'm sure it's probably true that vgchartz has underestimated Mass Effect sales to some extent, the response to this Bioware comment should be the same as when Sony makes similar statements: if you have a problem with the numbers, give the public the correct numbers.

This "I can't share the real numbers" BS is no different from when Sony said they couldn't release the real sales numbers until after NPD.
Both Sony and Bioware CAN share the numbers if they really want to, there's no law against it last time I checked.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

bioware can share the numbers but that particular employee is probably not allowed to, don't forget that bioware is also now owned by EA, so they call the shots, it would probably need EA to release a press release to get the figures.

Uhh, Mass Effect is my favorite game from this whole year, so I definitely hope vgchartz is wrong.

I do hope it sold better because I love ME, yet I do respect VGChartz and it's annoying how many people chalked this site up to guesswork after that comment, their figures aren't that far off of the npd figures, and this site isn't afraid of making that comparison. Plus NPD in my opinion isn't nearly as accurate as Media Create.

The fact that they don't share their numbers tells me it couldn't be much higher, maybe something between 200,00 and 250,000.

I do hope it has Oblivion style legs, but the big difference is that Oblivion was sitting on store shelves with little competition, there was no Assassin's Creed, COD4, Halo 3, Orange Box, Bioshock, etc...
