Forums - Gaming - Can the Playstation Eye already do what Xbox Kinect?

Technical specifications? It doesn't matter. The Wii has the worst graphics this gen, but is the one that have games selling more than 15 million... Software is what really matter but everything a saw until now from both (move and kinect) are copies of the best sellers on the Wii this why I probably will not buy anyone.

Antigrav was on the EyeToy which was a less advanced version of the PSEye. Remember this. The game came out what, 5-6 years ago?

I am positive that Kinect can do stuff that the PSEye can't do, but you will be very hard pressed to come in here and prove it, especially with them saying that Dance Central can be ported to PS3.

Also, even if PSEye can't do JoyRide, which we are not sure what so ever if it can or can not, it is entirely possible with the Move and has been done with Mario Kart, only with something in your hands that also offers physical feedback and the option to manually accelerate, which to me is a huge flaw for Kinect.

Not trying to knock it, just so you know. I am just stating the facts given at the moment.

The PS Eye has been out for years now. If it was as capable as the Kinect I think developers would have taken advantage of that already.

The Move has nothing do with this. This discussion is about the the PS Eye and Kinect. Hence, devices that don't use controls.

Why would developers take advantage when first off it isn't the main PS3 controller and two, Sony themselves barely supported it? It would have been financial suicide.

Alright, maybe you are right, Move has nothing to do with this, but you still can't prove at all that PSEye isn't capable of supporting Kinect styled games, especially without Kinect games utilizing the ability to track the player moving to and from the camera. If a game only requires facial, speech, 2D movements, etc... the PSEye can do so as well.

Pretty much every Kinect game shown so far requires you to stand/run in place, something the PSEye can work with. The one game that does use forward motion (Joyride boosting) is said to be a real hit or miss action with it sometimes not registering.

That is what I am saying.

but even if that is real , i don't see it as mind blowing, it would be great to have a game that going to be used for you know.. games! , where you move around in a world , not just sit there staring at yourself exactly like the Eyetoy was.

I never used Your Shape as an example because its not very impressive. I'd be surprised if the PS Eye isn't capable of that.

But like I mentioned in our other discussion. Do you have any examples of PS Eye games doing the exact same thing as games like Kinect Adventures, Dance Central, and Joy Ride?

You just keep bouncing around that.

But none of those games look like they'll be any fun at all.  Isn't that what really matters?

Kinect can be as advanced as it wants, but if all it offers are advanced versions of dance and fitness games, who is really going to care?  I doubt the casual market will.  They can already play those games on the Wii, and  especially at what Kinect costs, I don't see too many of them jumping ship.  Wii has already proved one thing this gen, and that is being the most technology advanced doesn't equal sales.

And who really wants to play a racing game without acceleration and brake controls anyways?  Or does Joy Ride do that? I don't know,  looks awful to me either way.

Kinect looks like a bust to me.  Hardcore 360 fanboys will probably buy it, but it'll most likely be swept under the rug like a dusty 32X.

Clearly this is an article written by a moron and posted by a PS3 fan.

I've asked Sony fans to give proof the PS Eye has the same capabilities as the Kinect but they never respond. I wonder why?

gametrailers.com has a comparison video, but they are the same and nothings different. speaking of PS3 fans not proving theres no difference. no 360 fan has proven there is.

i had a thread that asked this same question, and as a observer only just as i am now not trying or willing to debate! i've seen no difference.

No.

I've played both, and while they are similar, the tracking on MS's Kinect is better.
