The POINT is in 2010 Sony still reported a yearly loss (and for this most recent year also )

for 2010?it isn't over yet

the 09-2010 year consisted last years losses too

despite better sales from the Playstation Division.. YOU SAID IT HAD TO DO WITH HARDWARE PRODCUTION CHANGE.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME ?  Each year they have lowered the cost to make a PS3 and yet it still cost more to make a PS3 then what they sell it for !!

more sales don't make the loss lesser it actually makes the loss greater as more sales more loss by selling mkore products

the porduction change thing was because SONY have been making profit on PS3 since JAN-MAR 2010 but recently they has 40nm implemntation in production in may

they will be back making profit

According to The Wall Street Journal, which examined Sony's fiscal third-quarter financial performance, the company loses 6 cents on "every dollar of PS3 hardware sales." Considering the PlayStation 3 current retails for $300, we can safely assume then, that the company loses about $18 per unit. (Feb 2010)  source: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-10448137-17.html

that is so much bullshit.wallstreet journal is smoking pot, disn't they report the false blizzard 100m budget

and those figure are old,in what time are you living.SONY CFO itslef said PS3 made profit in Q1 2010 and is making even more since the 40nm RSX introduction

So the the reply and point to ANYONE who wonders why they don't just lower the price of any gaming product ( that they sell) to "compete" with anyone doing better then they are ( in this case Nintendo and MS) doesnt understand the PS3 is has fallen far from what the PS2 and PS1 -

who the fuck is even wondering that, nobody did.you are making ur own situations and trying to make ur own answers about them

which those products put tons of money in the bank and this product has done the opposite.  With no money it means less price cuts unless you want to go bankrupt.

that is an overstatement.pricecut beyond capacity makes a loss but it doesn't make you bankrupt.if SONY didn't go bankrupt in 2006,2007,2008,2009 THEY CERTAINLY WION'T GO BANKRUPT NOW

and both PS3 and PSP have room for price cuts now and even that with out a loss

Lets sum it up, they put out a product that is bringing in ZERO profit after paying the bills..

you are misinformed.as of now they are making profit.

You need to calm down and stop cursing since no one is cussing you out in this argument. If Sony drops the price on PSP to $99 and the Ps3 to $199, they would lose immense amounts of money in their gaming division. Sony has lost all the money they banked in from the Ps1 and Ps2 era on the Ps3. I wish i can find that graph for you. Sony is JUST starting to profit off the ps3 this year. Their gaming division only has a couple hundred milllions while Nintendo are at their 19 billions. Of course Nintendo doesn't count since the company is all about gaming. Sony has other divisions to profit from.

If sony drops their prices, you guys wouldn't see a Ps4 or a Psp2 for YEARS to come.

SORRY but he is jst again and quoting for not my comments and explaining me the whole state of the inductry for no reason

i told him twice, thrice but he jst doesn't stop

yes if SONY dropped PS3 to $199 then they would lose alot but nobody ever suggested this but he made up his own situationa and started explaining me.the same as you

i jst reffered to the PSP being $99.it is very cheap to make so they won't lose money on that

you don't need to find a graph, everybody knows it

you are doing the same thing as that guy.we all know this so why are we discussing it.and PS divisions financials matter less as PS3 is more an aim for antire SONY for blu-ray royalties than jst PS division itself

Of course Nintendo doesn't count since the company is all about gaming. Sony has other divisions to profit from.

if SONY drops the price for PSP then we will definetly see the those two.and if PS3 makes a minor price cut like $50 then too we will see both of them.even $199 PS3 would see both of them as then PS3 sales will be very immense and software sales will rise and $199 PS3 will lose them $50 which they were from a long time, alot more than that.i'm not saying they will make a profit jst replying my view

Nice numbers all a round.

Wii and 360 are getting closer every week =o.

Lifetime sales prediction

Wii 79/150 million

Xbox 360 47.7/73 Million

PS3 43.6/69 Million

Why should Sony drop PS3 to $199? Dropping to $249 would be enough to price the cheapest bundle with Move at $330 or less, in line with most other bundles, so avoiding any risk of making it unattractive.

But about PSP, how could it sell for more than $99 once DS drops to that level? So, once 3DS launch date is known and so DS' drop too, anticipating it could be a good move. And when DS, with its two screens, will be profitable on HW at $99, PSP will be too.

This doesn't exclude offering also PSP-phone, PSPGo and possibly other premium models priced higher, obviously, but if the competition has an entry level under $100 and if it's possible for Sony too to price a model under that threshold, not doing it would damage sales.

yeah there is no need to cut it to $199

hell they are doing good for the current price

and at $249 they can sell  MOVE at $300 with no loss too or a little which will not matter much as SW sales will cover it easily

But about PSP, how could it sell for more than $99 once DS drops to that level? So, once 3DS launch date is known and so DS' drop too, anticipating it could be a good move. And when DS, with its two screens, will be profitable on HW at $99, PSP will be too.

yeah that what.people think PSP at $99 will make a loss.........meh

but the thing is that PSP is supposed to be in market 4 more years and if they make it $99 then it will have problems later.

doing it near PSP2 launch next year will atleast make it survive

a $130 will be a better price.giving it a price cut for next some years
