Why, exactly, would it be sweet?

Because I don't like steam. Microsoft is my favourite!

Yes, Steam deals are awesome, just like most deals from PC DD services. It's not my fault if you don't want to take advantage of those deals.

I bought Mass Effect on Steam for $5 last year, it's been a long time since then.

Sure. But there are also deals on retailers. You can't say that a DD service is cheaper than retail if it is because of some random deals. Especially if you count just the DD deals and ignore the retail deals.

You should use the prices at the moment. I bet there are very few games right now which are cheaper on steam than on retail.

Except that they are NOT just "some random" deals. There was an SE pack deal which saved you around $468 a few weeks ago. Can you ever top that?

No, I propably can't because I don't know what that pack included and how much did it cost. Could you tell me that? Was this saving based on what it would cost on retail or steam prices?

Is the deal available now? If not, when is it available? I guess you should know, since it is not random.

Found the pack, so:

battlestations pacific - normal steam price 34,99€ - 6€ retail
arkham asylum -  49.99€ - 15€
supreme commander 2 - 34,99€ - 10€
just cause 2 - 49,99€ - 10€
kane&lynch - 29,99€ - 6€
mini ninjas - 39,99€ - 7€
order of war - 37,99€ - 5€

tomb raider underworld -  29,99€ - 5€

244€ savings on just those games! I am not going to bother with other games, but the results are likely to be similar. Not as good as steam, but close enough. You can even sell those games if you don't happen to like them. Buy from steam and you are stuck with the crap you bought.

First off, I never  sell my games used, if I ever have a game I won't keep I probably just end up pirating it, but more often the case is that I don't even bnother playing such titles.

Second, links.

Third, you are missing the biggest games on that list. I doubt you will find Deus Ex, Thief, and Hitman in any retial stores nowadays. But if you do let me know.

Fourth, I'd download the entire pack pack faster than it would take my DVD Drive to install them, it is faster than waiting for them in the mail, hunting for them in stores etc. etc. So Steam has just saved me not only money, but also money. "Time is money" as Benjamin Franklin once said, so you can translate that into even bigger money savings.

1.) You don't but some others do.

2) http://www.find-games.co.uk/

3) Biggest as in the ones you can't get cheaper elsewhere?

http://www.thehut.com/games/platforms/pc/hitman-contracts/10034371.html

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003EYV6WU/mffindgame-21

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0012MBUEA/mffindgame-21

There you go.

4.) I don't believe that. Also you have to consider how long you have been waiting for that deal on steam. How long you have had steam installed? Many years? Wow, that is a lot of time spent waiting for a deal.

If you are going to declare that a DD-service is cheaper than retail, you can't just apply your own conditions such as "time saved" for that. You are being ridiculous. Retail is much cheaper than the ripoff known as steam.

And I did not want to bother with all the games. Your point was that you got 500€ savings on a steam deal. You based that saving on the ripoff prices of that sucky DD-service. Really man, really? :D If one service would put original price of 1000€ for a game and then discount it to 10€ you would SAVE 990€!!!

So competition is good, as long as it is competing against microsoft?

Why on earth would someone choose a crappy linux OS or OSX instead of the superb windows 7 just because of "some steam love"? Windows is clearly superior product for all gamers and maybe some day GFWL will be bigger than steam too. That would be sweet!

Windows is superion only because that's the platform games are released on. You wouldn't think so if the games were released on Linux or Mac instead. GfWL sweet? Did you hit your head or something?

Anyway, I for one am tired with all the problems I'm having with Windows. Well, it's not that many problems but I find it very annoying how the system gets slower every day. And I haven't measured that exactly, but it definitely affects games too. I wouldn't call it superior.

I think posting this is going to be pointless since your obviously blinded by false logic but here goes.

Linux can be far superior for people who have a good background in programming. The OS distros are normally we faster, can be made to be more feature rich, and supports functionality that Windows 7 (and from what has been see Windows 8) doesn't have. Just because there is a very small number of games available currently doesn't mean that Windows 7 is superior. For business, servers, and more advance use it far exceeds the capabilities for Windows or Mac.

Now OSX has gained quite a bit of gaming support thanks to Steam. Its interface is very user friendly, but limiting to terms of capability. General users who can afford a Mac, and has no PC knowledge is better off with a Mac then a Windows machine since everything is way more straight forward. Its also a faster OS then Windows. It loads applications like Office 2008, Adobe Photoshop CS4, etc. a lot faster. Its more of a productivity OS then anything else. Its not meant for advanced coders, business, or server use. If you plan on doing homework, graphic design, etc or have no PC knowledge at all, this is typically the OS of choice.

Windows is the middle ground where most people fit in. It comes with some learning curve. It allows a decent platform for programmers, designers, and students. You have tons of programs to use. A strong background for gaming. There is even a new influx of hardware accelerated programs that are pushing some pieces of software applications faster then their Mac counterparts. The issue is that Windows tends to be buggier then Mac, more virus prone, and as stated above, no as user friendly. Windows 8 is promised to have a sudo-Mac experience with the Windows functionality, but we need to see it, and we really dont need a freaking app store for a PC OS.

As for GFWL vs Steam. There should be no argument that GFWL needs to jsut be scrapped completely. Its worthless software that offers nothing to the individual PC gamer that Steam and Impulse do 1000% better. Even if you dont use Steam or Impulse and download titles from D2D or even Amazon there are programs like Xfire that allow for chat with friends with friends list, clan functions, and voice chat as well as Windows Messanger and AIM chat support. All for free, and less resource hungry I might add.

It's impossible for me to get those kind of deals where I live, and Steam gives me even better deals without the annoyance of delivery fees.

Any PC gamer knows Steam >>>>> GFWL.

There is ZERO benefits for chosing GFWL. Steam has way more achievements, way more games, unlimited downloads, etc...

How does it feel to know that you're forced to phone Microsoft support everytime you download a GFWL game 5 times?

Oh. Did not notice this one.

Linux and games, blah.

OSX and games, blah.

Windows and games, yeah.

Windows = superior os for all gamers. Do I give a crap if you think that linux is better for programmers? No, I don't. I think I can be called one and I prefer windows environment. Do you know why? That is where the money is. Do I give a crap about OSX allegedly loading programs faster than windows? No. If you use the same amount of money for a mac and a pc, pc will always be faster.

All in all, Windows 7 is a great OS and definitely the best one for all gamers.

And sorry, I just don't share your opinion on GFWL vs steam. I think steam is a pile of sh*t and it should be scrapped. I just don't see anything good about it. With the exception of some rare good deals.
