maybe becasue its a gimmick.  Theres no big advancment between the hardware of the GC and wii.

Nice try Avinash. Xbox was LAST GEN, try comparing the Wii to the 360 and PS3 and see what you get. Won't be pretty. The thing that limits wii games is the lack of power the system has, more so compared to the 360 and PS3. And this hatred comes from an ex-nintendo fan who owned every nintendo consoles since the first nes.

The Wii is about twice as powerful as the GC, but that won't make too big of a difference as you said.

Why the hell do you feel THREATENED by it? It's just another direction, gaming as you know it is NOT going to be destroyed or finished or stopped because of Wii doing things differently.

 I personally like both styles, but honestly you do SERIOUSLY feel threatened by it? that's absurd.

 Then why are the majority of the games rated badly while the PS3 and 360 has the top scores? I will tell you why. Befoore the Wii was even released it was touted by people to be the saviour of gaming with the new control. For nintendo fans this was a great return and for people tired of the same old same old this is new hope. Reality is here. I have the wii.... and played multiple games. Anyone here who says that the wii completely changes gameplay and gaming seriously has rose colored glasses on. The controls are interesting but proves as substitutes. So you substitute a button press for a flick of the wrist....... if that makes you feel better than hurray for you. The remote doubles as a light gun.... fantastic..... I guess. But I have not found what the hype was about and I seriously think these sales are based off of hype and the hopes of disillusioned gamers. But as avinash says the wii's success is does not lie with the controller or the consumers.... it lies with the devs. I want to play a game in which I can feel that it was really made for the wii and the controls were not just an afterthought. 

 And as to the OP's (johnlucas) comments. I do not think that people are afraid of the Wii. They are just bothered by what it represents. It bothers me to an extent if the Wii(or the 360) becomes the dominate console. I am the type of gamer that likes a balance between graphics gameplay and story. Actually with a little more emphasis in story. The majority of the Wii games and the fanbase seem to put gameplay on the highest pedastool without that much care for storyling and graphics. The 360 titles and fanbase seems to place emphasis on multiplayer.... but let me not sidetrack. I have no issues about whomever consoles ends up at the top of the charts. My deep seated fear lies behind what the majority of develpors considor a priority while making their games.

My favorite titles happened to be heavily story based and that becomes my reason for playing and completing a game. I am not to into mission based games or playing just for the sake of playing. I view games like an interactive movies. The moment video games become primarily about gameplay or multiplayer  ladder climbing advanced selction matches, Is the day games becomea hobby instead of a passion for me. I hang up my hardcore gamer hat in the corner.

For some reason I do not see the wii as the console that will take on a role that is fit to satisfy multiple genres and a wide spectrum of gamers. I think either the PS3 or the 360 is more suited for that task. Believe it or not the most powerful systems out there seem to provide more of a choice when in regaurds to the direction of gaming. I do not want to hear any graphics cs gameplay arguements again because it is already proven that you can have both so why settle for less.

 I am sorry for this long rant.

Firstly, there are the obvious fanboys - people will will deny that Sony will "lose" down to the last bitter fight. This is pretty much irrational, as all that does it improve the industry leading to better and more games for all (I doubt anyone here is concerned because they have a lot of Sony stock, and are worried about falling stock prices ;).

Secondly, I can understand people being "worried" about the general direction of the industry. These people in general are "hard-core" gamers, and only want to play hard-core games. If the Wii succeeds, there will be a huge push away from these games to casual/simpler games. This really does make sense, and probably would "worry" hard-core'rs.

In a way these people see gaming as "their" domain. It belongs to hard-corer's - not casual players. "Those casual players should butt out, and stick to their PC's / solitaire, etc". By seeing all these new casual-ers take over the industry (and the focus of it) they may well feel "threatened".

Here is an analogy for you all - say you have a core group of "goth" music followers. They love their music, and hang out in their own club. Next day - a goth song becomes popular. Next thing they know, heaps of people are listening to the same music, and hanging out at their club. But they aren't real goths - they just got caught up by the song. These extra people wouldn't make the goths happy - instead they would threaten them, as the core essense of "what it means to be goth" itself is under fire.

This is also the main division/difference in the industry at the moment (Wii vrs 360/PS3). Do you focus/service on "hard-core" gamers, and drive your games from their needs? Or take Nintendo's approach, and attempt to widen the industry - getting more casual gamers into it? (surely both approaches are valid - but it also makes sense to imagine that whoever targets the casual console will sell more, and potentially be more profitable).

(of course Nintendo's idea is to target the hard-cores AND the casuals - not to excluse anyone, and try and reach maximum market penetration).

All this thread is for Nintendo fanboys to flame anybody who hates the Wii. We have every right to hate it and not like the direction it's taking the industry, so just stop cryin about it!

I have  better questions..Why do Nintendo fanboys always cry and get confused anytime somebody doesn't like their consoles? Why can't they just accept some people will hate it and just grow up and move on? You don't see Sony or MS fans make countless thread wondering how in the world anybody could ever hate their systems and cry when they do...So why do N fans do this? Why do you give a fuck? We hate it, get over it.

The hardcore market will still be there, it isn't going anywhere.  Adding new gamers to the market also adds new devs and companies and gets more games being made.

 Personally I'd rather see small leaps in graphics and new control methods at a cheaper price then to see video gaming get so outrageously expensive by trying to move forward 3 gens at once that I pay more for a console than I do for rent.
