I don't get global warming at all.

Someone explain it to me.

If it's true, why did the UK have it's coldest winter in years and why are we currently having a dreadful summer?

Global warming doesn't mean every square inch of the entire planet gets warmer.  The planet gets warmer as a whole, on average, and it changes everything drastically.

Global warming leads to the melting of the polar icecaps, which leads to giant icebergs breaking off the poles, and then they float to Europe.  So even though the planet AS A WHOLE gets warmer, certain areas will be getting much much colder as the ocean currents change around due to the new icebergs moving all over as they very slowly melt.

I think we should start colonizing the moon

Doom and gloom. Even the smartest man on earth can sometimes be quite dumb.

We already learned our lesson. We haven't dropped a nuke in over 60 years.  So why would we in the future?

Oil will run out soon so that will take care of the so call man made global warming threat.

Plenty of safe and environment friendly energy can be gotten from nuclear plants. Just build more. In 30 years we're all be driving in electric cars.

Humans are already close to getting only 2 kids per couple, so overpopulation ain't that big of a threat in the long run. And if we really are getting extremely old (like hundreds of years) we could sterilize people so population doesn't get bigger.

Genetic engineering on plants and animals will provide us with plenty of very awesome and great tasting food for everybody. And gene manipulation in humans can fix lots of negative traits such as agression and hostile behaviour in nasty individuals. Soon medication will be produced that makes us happy and content with only little materials. Medication will be invented to kill all nasty germs.

Comps will be wired to our brains and give us artificial leasure which will stop our cravings for resource hungry entertainment such as sex, sports and travels. Comps don't need much materials. And besides, materials could be recycled and reused in the future.

We won't need to go into space. If we fly far out there the risk of getting discovered and eaten by aliens is probably even higher than the risk of the earth getting hit and destroyed by a gigantic meteor.

So you want to ruin everything good about humanity?

What do u mean?

I'm sorry, but it would be easier to completely fix things after worldwide nuclear devastation than find another planet to live and send a few colonists there.

Hawking can be a freaking genius, but he often is a little off when it comes to space technology and such. I remember what he said about aliens some months ago.

You think that it would be easier  to recover if the population was reduced to near zero, all crop and food production destroyed, all the science that took 10 millenia to figure out -lost and the world reduced to a near uninhabitable state due to nuclear radiation than it would be to use all of our current and future scientific advances to colonize a new planet.

And you think stephen hawking is crazy because he thinks that we should fear an alien threat because any species that is capable of reaching our planet is more advanced than us and the more advanced race will always take advantage of the weaker ones, well study some history because that's every human conflict right there.
