Forums - Microsoft - Remedy Interview about Alan Wake! Details on next DLC!

When the DLC releases, I'll definitely get it.  Alan Wake deserves the support.  I hate seeing such a good game get overlooked.

Yep. Alan Wake 2 has to happen. Already I prefer and love Alan Wake over Resident Evil, Silent Hill and every other mind fuck thriller/horror game out there. It's presentation is better. It's story is way better and it actually tenses you up.

Hopefully they fix all the problems the first game had with the sequel, the game didn't match up to Max Payne 1 & 2 only because it had those glaring faults. Hopefully they pull a Naughty Dog and finish the game in 18 months, Christmas 2011 or early 2012.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I was very happy with number 1. And it's the 'only' game this gen I give a 10 to so far.

You've got to admit though that it did have some problems.

SPOILERS!!!

The gameplay wasn't varied enough. It also lead to the game being extremely repetitive by the second half, instead of offering me flood after flood of Taken, chuck a puzzle, some platforming, different enemies, new weapons or even a flight simulator into the mix.

The lip syncing was horrible.

The facial animation was mediocre in comparison to the rest of the game.

The Verizon ads are annoying (That damn billboard).

The story is extremely inconsistent. It jumps from one place to another and then doesn't explain what happens in between. New characters are introduced and then disappear straight away without an explanation, I'm suddenly in an asylum for some reason etc.

The story also relied on the scrolls to much, I missed out on heaps of things because I missed certain scrolls. For example, I still have no clue what the story behind that alcoholic detective was, to me he seemed pissed for no reason.

I was in the forest for way to long and most of it looked the same, some levels outside of the forest are fantastic (Concert Stage battle, town) but the time spent in those are extremely small compared to the time in the forest.

Sprint and dodge are on the same stick.

Overall the game was good but flawed, the great ideas Remedy had worked extremely well in the game (flashlight, lighting effects, beautiful environments, great voice acting, interesting storyline, an episodic plot structure and a fantastic modern day soundtrack) but everything else about the game was mediocre. It's major flaw and the reason why it isn't hitting those high 90's on metacritic is because despite the game being short, it gets repititive and boring by the second half.

When it comes to being the best in it's genre, Alan Wake still falls short in comparison to Bioshock and Dead Space, which both fall into the horror genre.

Based on how much I enjoyed the game after I first played it, I'd give it a solid 8. Based on how much I thought of the game after I let it settle with me, replayed it for a bit and thought up all it's flaws, I'd give it a solid 7. If it helps, I loved Metro 2033 and Bioshock 2 and I'd also give them a 7.

Presentation and story in Alan wake is great. As is the action, even it slightly repetitive...

But you really found alan wake more tense than something like...Silent Hill 2 and Eternal Darkness?...hell even Limbo?

The fact that you are in par with Rambo and can shoot better than Clint Eastwood and John Wayne combined...and have things like slow mo and flash bangs to get you out of trouble kills the tension for me.

Also, the fact that you read the pages which tell you exactly what is ahead doesn't help either.

Doobie_wop above with his post has the right idea...its a great game, and I hope the sequel gets made...so they can improve it. Its still flawed in a lot of areas and they can definetly get a lot more out of the world they created.

NO!!!!!!!!!! Spoilers!

I thoroughly enjoyed Alan Wake and I would rate it as one of the top 5 games on the 360.  I loved how they presented the story in episodes and how the music at the end of each episode could be tied in to the story.  It made the game feel like a really good tv series.

And to all the people that complained about the gameplay getting repetitive I didn't notice that problem because I was enjoying how the story was unfolding too much.  Lighting enemies up with the flashlight and shooting them never got old to me.

It sounds like remedy really wants to make a sequel but it's up to Microsoft.  I hope Microsoft decides to let them make a sequel I think it would sell a lot better than the original if they would just advertise a little more and don't release it in a month jam packed with other major titles.

That is exactly my thoughts sumed up about the game. Also a sequel should cost less and take less time as long as they keep the same engine and just tweak it.

Yeah I think I remember reading somewhere where remedy said since they were such a small team most of their time and effort went toward building the brand new engine for the game and now that they have the engine in place they could release a sequel in 2 to 2.5  years.  They also said that while doing this they could also continue to refine the graphics engine to make it look even better.
