My Time Machine to 2009 has succeeded...no wait, its just the same gloom and doom as last year...yawn

I find it funny, it takes price cuts and new versions of a console for the PS3 and 360 to pass the Wii for just a few weeks a year, and yet its the Wii that's somehow doomed, if Wii is doomed, what the heck does that make PS3 and 360?

Yes Wii is down year on year, so what, it'll probably still sell far more than the 360 and PS3 this year, and will probably outsell them next year as well, and as we are seeing, its on track to outsell the PS2 when all is said and done, not to mention end up making Nintendo boatloads of cash, not a bad result at all

Why is it that you say it took price cuts (PS3 and clearance 360s) and new versions (Slim and S) to pass the Wii and you totally ignore.

Wii got a $50 price cut in the same time frame.

Wii got Wii Sports Resort added to the bundle.

Wii got Wii Motion added to the bundle.

Wii released the new black SKU.

I like how Nintendo puts things in perspective:

http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=132837

If the Wii is the fastest-selling console by 15 months, why do we keep seeing these posts? Shouldn't we be celebrating the fact that it is the fastest-selling console ever?

Here's the facts. 360 had a redesign. PS3 had a redesign. Wii is selling now as the same console it was in 2006. When Nintendo wants to, they can offer a redesigned Wii, spark sales again, and leave Sony and Microsoft in the dust.

Why should we celebrate? Especially if Wii isn't your favourite console?

Do you have nintendo stock or something?

You should celebrate that Nintendo is succeeding. They are the only company that actually cares about gaming. Microsoft and Sony care more about profits, creating monopolies, and sucking the life out of everything they touch.

Okay so Nintendo wanted to expand the market and make gaming mainstream, so what? That's a good thing. That means gaming isn't going to turn into a niche business and slowly die. That means more people are enjoying gaming instead of a select few hardcore grumps.

That is amusing. Nintendo does not care a bit more about gaming than any other company. They want profits, just like anyone else.

If they just wanted profits, they would be making yearly Wii Sport sequels like EA and putting a year after it. Wii Sports 2009, 2010, 2011, and on and on.

They don't do this because they care about gaming and don't want to rape their audience for money.

Did you notice how at e3 this year they were the only company that had something innovative while Microsoft and Sony were heartlessly copying what they did 4 years ago? Haven't you noticed for the past 20 years how they have constantly been creating new innovations that other companies then heartlessly rip-off?

Is this the profile of a company that only cares about profits? Seems like it would be the other way around if that were true. They would be copying Microsoft and Sony and making a PowerCube in 2006.

Oh crap, I pushed wrong button so once again:

Yeah, they do name their games differently. Wii sports, wii sports resort and what next, wii sports extreme? How about mario party 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9? Pokemons?

Could you tell me what did they innovate lately? Motion controls? Not their innovation, they just copied the existing idea/technology. 3d gaming? Not their innovation either.

How is kinect copying nintendo? Do they have a motion tracking camera?

Every company cares about the profits. Nintendo could not get enough (any?) profits with GC and they knew they could not compete with Sony and MS to lesser extent. They had to do something different.

2 Wii Sports games in 3 years isn't exactly breaking any records for sequels.  And Sports Resort differentiates far more than most sequels at that.

Also, Mario Party stopped at 8, and that was 3 years ago.  In 15 full years there's been what, 5 full Pokemon sequels and 2 remakes?  There may be many variants of each, but that's comparable or actually less full sequels than most major JRPG series in the same span.  For comparison, Final Fantasy's had 7 full sequels in the same period, and 4 remakes as well.

They stopped but still they made yearly versions of the game. I don't see that being any different than those sports games he mentioned.  For the pokemons, I am pretty sure that there has been 6 pokemon games starting from 2003 and 2 more coming in a month or so.

This is not meant directly to you, it is to that mortono-fellow.

Now I am starting to see the logic. You claim that nintendo cares for gaming and not for profits, unlike Sony/MS. Then you prove it with... yearly sports games from EA. Which are definitely worse as sequels than releasing the same game many times. Yeah, I see what you are trying to say.

I also find it humerous that people think that the console manufacturer that never sells a console at a loss is the one that cares more about gaming then profits.  I guess it is the desire to continue to believe that Nintendo is the cute and cuddly company.

Every company robs the consumer. Nintendo does it with love.

Well, saying Nintendo cares more about gaming than profits is obviously misleading. However, saying they care more about gaming than short-term profits may not be inaccurate. For Nintendo, gaming is everything - gaming is their future, so the state of it means everything to their long-term success.

We can't say Sony or MS doesn't care about the state of gaming, as I'm sure the game divisions definitely do. However, when it comes to pushing gaming as a medium, I feel like Nintendo is way ahead of the pack (in their methods, anyway). They're the ones trying to make a gamer out of everyone, with them displaying stuff like graphs of the social acceptance of video games... With a cause like that, profit oriented or not, I think it's a struggle worth cheering them on for.
