Forums - Sony - Why so much PS Plus Hate?

I think PSN is really good value. The only reason I'm not on it is that I WOULD download all those free games, and I'd buy those discounted games. But I (and my kids) spend too much time playing games as it is, if we got more games we'd just be too tempted spend even more time gaming, which would not be good. So I'm disciplining myself by not subscribing to PSN .

After reading a lot of posts about PS on diffrent forums, I don't quite understand why people are hating on it so much.

It has not broken any promises made (yet) as we have gotten out PSOne games and minis and big games (critter crunch and wipeout HD so far).

In the fine print of PS and WHEN YOU DOWNLOAD THE FREAKING GAMES you are told that any of the free content is only valid as long as your subscription lasts, so there really isn't any confusion as to how long you get to play those free games.

I will say that the game trial is cool but the games offered for it are pretty old (though I do like seeing full games as being downloadable now). I will also say that the content and discounts offered so far may not be up everyone's alley but so far it has only been a month.

Even without any of the discounts and add-ons, PS users have still gotten Wipeout HD, Critter Crunch and Syphon Filter to use for 3 or 15 months for the cost of their subscription (there are other games too, I'm just listing the more high profile ones).

Assuming the other 14 months go in a similar fashion as this one, PS users will basically have 15 pretty great PSN games, another 15 or so good ones and maybe 10 good PSOne classics. The length of time that people have access to these games will vary from 1 - 15 months, but still, an average of 8 months of unlimited access to 20-30 great games (probably a whole lot more plus all of the discounts) isn't worth $50 to the current PS subscribers?

Obviously if you don't game that much and wouldn't have time or desire to play through the games then it would be a waste of money for you, but PS isn't targeted at those users anyway.

So, where does the PS hate come from only a month in? Sony hasn't gone back on any promises (even with updates every 2 weeks now, you just get more content every 2 weeks) nor have they tricked anyone with the game "rentals."

Maybe peeps on the interwebz just like to rage?

If the Playstation camp rages against XBox Live Gold costing what it does, doesn't it make sense they rage against the Sony version of Gold to?

people scared to see Sony make a profit???

I want PSplus...I just don't have any money...=(

Because of two very important factors.

1. As with all subscription services, the first few months offerings are GREAT. Thats how they draw you in on their offer. Then after a while they start cutting back on the content. The games aren't so good, it becomes the poor-selling PSN games which they start to give away. Its the same with the Sky service we have in my country, at first the content was excellent but then they started adding advertisements and things like that and the quality of the movies were often better on over the air TV sans the advertisements which I timeshift.

2. If something on PSN is worth having, its worth buying. What PSN does is make you pay twice for the really good content, first for the content and secondly for the subscription, or offer you content for free which you never thought was worth the purchase price to begin with. So if you have PSN you either don't buy great content and hope it comes on PSN or you buy the great content and then get pissed off when it gets offered for free at some later date.

Furthermore the more they sucker in with the service, the more they will start to offer services as PSN only. One PSN subscription is just one more vote for them to turn PSN into Xbox Live.

Tease.

PSN Plus is nice, but Xbox Live is still better as far as community online. Sony can throw perks your way for paying, but their focus is STILL off of what really matters.

I blame microsoft for this. If you buy their system and games, online should be free. Sony saw that microsoft was making money so they went for the money grab as well. I dont pay for gold and i wont pay for plus.

Ps who buys clothes for their avatar?

I don't like PSN Plus just for free games... I have a list of games that have not bought yet and now I'm buying with discounts.

Games like Super Stardust HD... so fun and I bought because PSN Plus (half-price).
