Rules

1. Explain why you picked your console of choice

2. Explain what holds the other back from being your favorite

*My answer*

Im going with the Playstation Portable, in order to understand my choice ihave to explain why the DS JRPG library annoys me.

Why i did not choose the DS:

I have a multitude of of issues with RPG library for DS that all relate back to same main problem.

DS RPG's are composed in 2 ways:

1. RPG's from 10 years ago that are remade for DS

or

2. New RPG's that are made from a mindset from 10 ago

basicallly when i play DS RPG's i feel like im playing SNES or PS1 RPG's everything about them is just old.

shamelessly cliche:

settings

story

characters

art style

( you can tell the personality of the character just by lookin at his art)

music

even KH feels old and boring, just everything just feels tired

2nd to Last DS rpg that i bought..was very boring

you this baby right here? this is the only made for DS RPG i can think of off the top of my mind

DS has SOOOO many features that could help RPGS for the sysytem stand out by being more interacrtive..but what do developers go for? SNES/PS1 level

it erks the shit out out me.

*Why I choose PSP*

I noticed that developers attack both consoles differrently.

DS is seen as a extension of the SNES where developers can live in the past while PSP is actually seen as current console that they put current mindset efforts on for example:

while SE has remade nearly every game in thier catalouge for DS

they have cntinued series on PSP( KH, CC, third birthday)

or created fresh/ new series games( dissida, agito and masters of arcana)

Falcom is contining there series with YS7 and The legend of heros

CAPCOMS 1st RPG in years the The Last Ranker

lots of creative unique content:

NIS has been the masters of this

Cladun

Z.H.P

Criminal girls

prinny

then theres also

yuusha 30

basically a great asortment of games that really help to get the genre fresh

overall I think the PSP has the better quality...  at 1st DS was killing the PSP with its nostalgic approach but unfortunately it never grew out of that phase... ive  played the originals and are tired of the "been there done that" in the rest of RPGS on the

so i choose PSP

I would go with the PSP, but primarily because it has FF VII, VIII and IX

The DS's JRPG library headbutts the PSP's square in the mouth. The DS's forehead is uninjured, but the PSP's teeth are shattered, left hanging and cracked from half-torn gums.

what in the fuckin fairy fuck happened to second half of my OP? FUUUUCK THIS SITE PISSES ME OFF

I pick DS

Why I pick DS:

-Remakes and throwbacks from many masterpieces

-Chrono Trigger DS

Why not PSP:

-JRPGS too uncovntional and (like many other jrpgs) losing it's jrpg charm

i pick the DS

basicallly when i play DS RPG's i feel like im playing SNES or PS1 RPG's everything about them is just old... and that's the way I like them..

I am going to go against the grain here and say that if you're a JRPG fan you should damn well own them both.

If I had to choose just one though I would probably go with the DS, but the DS has been put down again and the PSP is getting playing time. About to start DIsgaea Infinite.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I choose the ds because I just don't have any rpg's for my psp (unless dissidia counts). Even though I barely have any rpg's for my ds. That is weird to since I like rpg's. I guess the consoles not having many good ones makes me not care about the handheld rpg's.
