Forums - Nintendo Discussion - HVS layoff fallout - no Grinder?

The Grinder>Conduit 2...

Anyway they shouldn't have tried to make Conduit 2 in the 1st place...in my opinion if I knew I was in trouble and only could make 1 more game to try to save me from not having a job I wouldn't pick to make a sequel to a game that didn't sell well.

I'm going to kep posting this post until everyone reads it.

I'm going to lay the rumors to rest here.

The layoffs were simply because Torunament of Legends had completed production and all the staff that could be moved to other projects were moved and the remaining redudant staff were cut.  This happens to every studio out there.  80% of all layoffs you ever read about at a studio are for this exact reason.  It's also why studios are built near each other...so it's easy for one studio to quickly grabbed just axed talent.   A lot of people in the industry will drift between studios over the years as projects come to completion.

And The Grinder remains on Wii as the FPS we all saw it as.  They didn't show anything new at E3 for 3 reasons.

1. It's not coming out before next E3 already rolls around.
2. They wanted to focus on near release projects like Conduit 2.
3. It doesn't have a publisher yet and HVS used the Sega booth to showcase their products.  So they couldn't show off The Grinder on the show floor even if they wanted to.

Amazing, just last year they were getting so much praise from the Wii fans.

It also goes to show developing Wii games ain't cheap. They should stick to shovelware.

Well, there is a lot of proof that developing Wii games is cheaper than developing games for the other systems.

The problem here is the other point to which you alluded -- this developer does not have a lot of experience doing "big" games. And it tried to do too much on its first "big" game -- and ended up over-promising and under-delivering. Then it followed it up with a game that came out cheap and immediately saw a price drop --which does not point to quality.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Conduit 2 better blow my mind then if it may be the last HVS game

Same here. I felt The Conduit was ok, but not as good as I thought it would be. The multiplayer wiiSpeak bug really pissed me off as that was the reason I purchased my wii speak. I used it twice, both times the conduit sound sucked ass.

Thank fully I resold it for $35 on Ebay, so it only cost me ~$25 to beat it.

I was really looking forward to The Grinder :(

Conduit 2 and GoldenEye come out on the same day so they have to battle it out for a week until Black Ops comes and eats up all the sales.

It's ironic how we don't get that many FPS games but when we do, we get 3 of them in the same month. :|

Quoting myself because I still see people haven't read this and are still under a false impression.

You're going to be at this for a long time, you realize.

How's that gladiator game been doing, anyway? Not too hotly, I suppose? Haven't heard anything about it in ages...

Indeed I do.  Over the years, I've come to learn that many people read the thread title and not a single word more before they add their own comment.  I'm just hoping that they notice a pattern of repetition in several posts and that it catches their attention.
