Suprised Red Steel 2 didn't make an appearance

Around the Network

I fail to understand why everyone keeps calling Alan Wake a flop. Its not done selling yet, its still full price, and holiday sales will give it a boost. It should hit 1 million by the end of the year. Legs and price cuts might take it to 2 million.

Worst case scenario, it should break even.

Let's see. This holiday you have Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Halo Reach, Fable III, Fallout New Vegas, Dead Rising 2 and Assassin's Creed Brootherhood. I can think that Alan Wake could have a smal bump on sales but honestly not a big boost.

I feel bad for Pop: TFS, it was an incredibly awesome game, I'm worried ubisoft may leave the franchise.

And what about s&p2? it was a hyper omega flop

Yahoo only lists games with mainstream appeal and hype.

It's an exclusive title that took 5 years to make from Remedy, a developer whose past franchise sold over 7 million units. Worst case scenario would actually be Remedy losing money I'd imagine.

It's been discounted in Ireland and the UK. I can't speak for mainland Europe or NA.

Well I think it'll hit a million by the end of the year... not guaranteed but possible. For that to happen it needs to move 380K in about 20 weeks. It could possibly happen especially if legs maintain. Very possible if price goes down to $30 - $40 during the Holidays.

But Remedy is a small development team of about 40 employees. MS has also been backing the project since 2006 and apparently had a lot of say. So if anyone loses money it'll likely be MS.

Anyhow, its only been out for 3 months and legs are still pretty good. I highly doubt they dropped a mega budget for a survival horror game. If anything, most of the money probably went to creating the game engine which will likely be used for other games. Sequels should be cheaper and faster to create.

I'd include Mod Nation Racers in the list.  Having dabbled with all 3 of this Mays racers it is the best and offers something genuinley different with the modding tools, and with the new patch hopefully its biggest flaw (loading times) is reduced.  Deserved to be a million seller.

It's either that the load times scared people off, or the Kart racing fans have all gone Wii and are happy to stay there. It is a shame, such a fun game.

I guess we have to say AW significantly underperformed. I recall numerous threads pondering whether AW or Heavy Rain would sell best. I even recall replying at one stage saying it was unfair to compare the 2 because Heavy Rain was so niche and AW had much better main stream potential. I'm still really surprised it hasn't reached half of Heavy Rain's sales. I do hope it legs it out to 1 million. My guess is that it has probably made a modest profit, after all 580K sold to consumers is probably >600K shipped to retailers.

i'll not say anything about MNR being a flop until 2011...LBP began in the same way, with really low sales, and when holidays hit, the sales rose like a rocket...this game could do the same, i'm still looking forward to it, i really want to play it...

er.... eh?

LBP in the fist 11 weeks = 1.82m  (330k week 1)

MNR in the first 11 weeks = 0.41m  (136k week 1)

Alos MNR sales are dying rapidly.

the key is in the holidays...well IMO :P

I was in Gamestop a few hours ago (hell of a sale they've got going on--but I put the games I had back.  They were impulse buys) and Alan Wake was selling for about $35, I think.  Prince of Persia was about $40.  A lot of other games were selling at huge discounts AND at half price.  I think Madworld is selling for $6 (and somehow, I still didn't buy it).  I loved Alan Wake but the writing is on the wall for that one.
