This is not acceptable Israel managed its own border, within its border. Israel should retaliate hard.

That would be stupid. Too many deaths already for an obvious mistake. Israel already presented its evidence and there is no doubt Lebenon wouldn't do anything even if it weren't at fault due to their own internal issues.

Best option is to just walk away.

you are seriously going to trust a western article.

want the real story?

isreal installed a camera on the border, but a tree was blocking it, so they came inside lebanon to chop off the tree, hezoballh was their, and they are going to shoot at them, so the army fired some shots, then an isreali tank fired killing 3 civilians, i think one isreali died, or some got injured im not sure.

I don't quite see why a western article should be less credible than an eastern article in general.

But I have to admit the version you posted seems indeed quite plausible to me.

Well, in the end the big question is: On which side was the tree really? That can't be that hard to judge, so we should know very soon.

If the tree was indeed on the lebanese side, the whole incident was Israels fault and Israel illegally invaded Lebanon. If the tree was on the Israeli side, it was the lebanese fault and Israel's reaction was justified.

You should watch Fox News then. To Fox News, the flotilla civillians that were massacred by Israel had intentions of destroying Israel and everything good about life.

Lebanon attacks Israel? No. Not true from what Ive heard.

Israel were cutting down a tree on Lebanese land, so they could see into Lebanon... The Lebanese soldiers fired warning shots... THEN the fighting broke out.

Israel brought a tank and air support in.

And is it just me, or are Israel involved in more fighting than any other country lately? We should invade them instead of the countries like Iraq.

yeah...they will likely just go back to continuing as normal, probably with extra security around the maintenance crews though.   talks are already set up to discuss this matter with both militaries and unifil and since the UN has already determined that the territory is israels.  so the only escalation at this point is if hezbolleh members start lobbing things across the border(which they were publically told not to do).

I'm not convinced it was an obvious mistake. I read somewhere that it may have been a delibarate provocation by the Lebanese army just to draw attention to external threats and away from current internal issues. I'm not sure what's going on politically in Lebanon right at this time and if that theory actually makes sense though.

But yeah, walk away is what I think Israel will do. This will settle down in a couple of days.

did you read more than the title?

I did (before the mass Editing)... And my point still stands.

Yesterday Sky News were reporting that it was in Lebanese land, and the Lebanese soldiers fired warning shots... Then the Israelis fought back, bringing in a Tank and an attack Helicopter.

Why the hell do they need to cut a tree down to see into Lebanon anyway? ¬_¬

mass editing?  the only thing ive changed since your post is added 2 paragraphs by the UN again confirming its israeli territory.

...snipers targeting senior officers 100 meters in, isnt generally considered warning shots.  of course by lebanons own words they opened fire with RPGs and small arms when the israelis refused to stop cutting the tree.  as you can imagine, warning shots with RPGs doesnt happen.  and the isaelis also had artillery :)

and the reason for the tree needing adjusting is included in the excerpts i posted.  additionally...this is routine maintenance along the fence.  it occurs fairly often and unifil is always notified where the maintenance takes place.

They fired the RPGs after the warning shots, obviously...

I just think its odd that we keep hearing about Israel, and fighting... Over and over again. Seems to me that Israel is where our troops need to be right now, not Afghanistan.

well if theyd stopped being attacked then there wouldnt be fighting.   just this week they were attacked from gaza, egypt and now lebanon.

I haven't seen anything about the Gaza attack this week, but they probably deserve it after the whole Gaza Flotila thing.

Egypt was apparently Islamic Terrorists, not Egypt themselves... So no surprise there.

Lebanon, I don't think counts as an attack on Israel at all, more of a defence...

Point stands though. Almost every bit of fighting i hear about involves Israel.
