Forums - Microsoft - The plot thickens...

What's wrong with microsoft supporting HD-DVD to help themselves? Sony is making people who want the PS3 get a blu-ray drive to help their other business, that's not any better.

It's even worse actually.  Microsoft is using money they have legitimately made in a way they see fit for their business.  Sony is forcing its loyal supporters to pay for something they don't want.

DVD Town puts their thoughts into this:

Michael Bay Accuses Microsoft of Conspiracy

What's New
By Henning Molbaek
FIRST ONLINE Dec 5, 2007
Michael Bay speaks before thinking in a new forum post on his web site. This time he raves about Microsoft and the conspiracy that they company supports HD DVD for the sole reason of hurting Blu-ray.

The director posted this on his forum:
"That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu Ray. They want confusion in the market until they perfect the digital downloads. Time will tell and you will see the truth."

A few things to comment on here by your Editor-in-Chief ( Yes, that is me =) ). MS never paid Paramount any money for the change. It has been said that "Advertising" dollars was promised to Paramount from Toshiba. Think the Shrek HD DVD ads. However, this is the only concrete evidence that their was any money involved with Paramount dropping Blu-ray.

About Microsoft making sure that no one wins I can only say this. Sure, like Sony preparing movie downloads on its Playstation 3 gaming console? Like Apple supporting Blu-ray although they have never released a product with a Blu-ray drive and currently betting all their iPod dollars on iTunes movie downloads? If you want to see a conspiracy it is not hard to find one.

With all this said. Don't believe everything you read especially not when a war is ongoing.

It's 5% in america now....in japan 17% so the HD thing is getting bigger

Sorry for the double post.  Do you have a link?  That's alot bigger than I was expecting in Japan.  It wouldn't surprise me because Japan is usually the first to buy into consumer technology.

Yes, I've seen an article on it but i'll have to search around for it and i'll probably have it for you within the hour ok?

Thanks to kenobi after I got him to ban my old account (dallas) after someone hacked into it and being ok with me coming back under a slightly different username.  I appreciate our communication in the PMs.  Also I want to give a big thank you to vgchartz for being one of the cooler websites around.

I suppose that's true. It seems likely that we'll have 3 successful media formats for many years to come though.

true, but how i wish one HD format would just die out.

Have you read this part from Michael Bay

"What you don't understand is corporate politics. Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads. That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu Ray. Thats a scary thought.

Though I cant see Digital downloads doing well unless they make a new codec that would play 1080p videos from 100mb of data and sell the videos really cheap....

scratch that, it would still be pretty hard for the average movie lover to play the movie on his/her Big screen.

Ok I didn't have an opinion on him.... but now I know he is a fucking caveman moron...... digital download is the future..... and any format on which they release video music and software right is pure shit beside the low cost of production even his "superior" Blu ray shit.....

for the rpice of 10 BR I can get a HDD big enough to store 100 time that and I should be able to pay the movies half if not less the price on internet in full HD.... and don't tell me you need a 1080p film to be on a format under 8Go that's BS the slowest cable connection should be able to handle a movie like that in less than 12 hours which mean you get up you start the DL and you have the movie when you go home...

come on in france I can get a 20Mbps DSL connection for less than 50 bucks a month...... it's the fucking 5th country in the world... why the hell am I paying 40 bucks for a 3Mbps cable connection where I live in USA....

Download is the future and michael bay is fucktard

Thanks.  That's pretty impressive.  I've always thought BD will take off better as a recording format more than a movie distribution format.  Alot of people with porn media on their hard drives will welcome a format for backup medium because of the high failure rate of hard drives.  Still, prices need to come down, and they will.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

 Anger aside...

I do agree, Digital Downloads do have a future.  But there will still be a market for physical media as well.  Alot of people like to be able to have their media on their shelves.  Even though MP3 downloads have set in, there are people that still buy CDs.

Plus, America and many other countries are a long ways away for 20 Mbps.
