Forums - Microsoft - Sexy Ladies can't disguise Kinect Live demo fail

Puggsly what exactly is your investment in Natal kinect?

why attack the Move and say it has gotten less attention/ claim the lighting isnt right, nobody cares about move.. etc.?

Gaming sites and actual fans of gaming are excited for move. SONY is creating excellent uses for the tech which will obviously be supported by developers for a long time because yes it does infact use a similar interface as the wii. Is that not okay with you?

You can spout off nonsense about it being a wiimote and then say.. woops and so can I.

Kinect is obviously a stillborn at this point imo technologically speaking. Even if Microsoft (a software company) manages to get it together with Kinect, I wont support it out of spite... which is obviously what you seem to be doing with the Move imo.

Of course I will give credit where its due, and I think we should all try and do the same

Claim the lighting isn't right? It clearly isn't right.

The only Move games we've really seen so far just follow a ball. The games that just use an Eyetoy have similar problems with lighting. But people ignore that for some odd reason.

My problem with the Move is its a blatant ripoff of the Wiimote. The reason the media is giving it little attention is because we've been using it since 2006. I respect Nintendo and MS for being innovative. I can't give Sony credit for repackaging the Wiimote.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting the Move comment to blow up like this. But we got some raging Sony fans that are looking to make a big deal out of it.

Is the net going to be full of disappointed Konect customers days after the release?

Could be a PR nightmare if it happens, but there are already a million pre-prders so Microsoft may not care that much as they would have made massive profit very quickly,

Remember the old Wii trailers? It showed people playing golf, boxing, and other activities. It seemed like the device was following your exact motions. What a big crock of shit that was.

Right... ok, so Wiimote wasn't as good as people thought... your point is...?

"Is the net going to be full of disappointed Konect customers days after the release?... Could be a PR nightmare if it happens"

Disappointment didn't seem to hurt the Wii.

My guess is the flashing is interfering with the Kinect. We can't tell if the Move has the same problem because nobody cares. I mean... given that we see little coverage on the Move.

Anyhow, is Kinect being released in Japan for the Holidays?

why bring PSmove in this thread?

What does PSmove have anything to do with Kinect issue discussion? so what if PSmove isn't getting much attention? IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT KINECT IS FLAWED.

BTW this is already on VGC news front page.

PS Move also uses a camera. So perhaps tons of flashing lights could interfere as well.

Obviously a room with tons of nonstop flashing lights is not the enviornment the Kinect is intended to be used.

here are no flashing lights, and from 4:25 it doesn't work so well either.

and i don't see why move is being discussed either.

For some reason it bugged out there, but it seems to work great for the most part. Its new technology, I don't expect perfection. I struggle with my god damn Wiimote all the time.

I mentioned Move because it also uses the camera. Perhaps the tons of flashing could interfere with the camera as well.

perhaps shmerhaps.

here is a video of some sneaky Germans trying to distract Move with a flashlight directly into the camera and they fail!

it's right at the start in the haircutting game

Not quite the same as tons of flashing lights engulfing the people playing.

But the hair cutting game isn't even tracking the people. It just follows that ball on the Wiimote Movemote.

of course it's different, it's always different, it's never the same, is it? it's only the same if you need is as example where perhaps the move could be distracted in a similar fashion in some parallel universe.

but i have yet to see a video where the Move fails, but there are plenty of those for the eyetoy  Kinect.

see what i did there?

Well Eyetoy didn't work properly if a room was too dark. I imagine too much brightness can be an issue as well. Regardless, the game he used as an example was following a ball and not people. So yes, its very different.

If the Eyetoy was just a Kinect than why don't they make some motion tracking games? Why do I have to play The Fight with those Movemotes? Why do I need those Movemotes to dance? Oh right... its just a webcam.

Kinect = New technology

Movemote = Exactly what it looks like

Kinect = New technology (that doesn't work)

Movemote = Exactly what it looks like (that works really well)

PS to answer you question, check this out: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/05/26/kung-fu-live-for-ps3-you-are-the-controller/

Of course the Movemote works. I've been using the original since 2006.

Hah, funny you ignored this part...

click the link? depends on what game you are playing, some are simple and don't require Move, some require greater detail and/or buttons which do use Move.

I clicked it but I fail to see the point.

Clearly the Kinect has a lot more potential than the Eyetoy when it comes to motion detection.

You can't blame me entirely. Granted I mentioned another device that has problem with lighting. But its the Sony fans that blew it up and completely derailed the thread.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
