I think that the PS3 has been undertracked to some degree. You cannot overship because shops will not take stock that they dont need. By the way it is very hard to track europe. Extreamly hard. Thats why no one does it. Plus NPD is North America alone. What about south America?

Japan does not = Asia

Although Playstation is the most popular console brand in Brazil (it is almost a synonymous for video game) Sony dosen`t ship any PS3 to retailers. All PS3 consoles are imported.

I think the same thing happens in the rest of latino america.

Sony is currently producing PS2s in Brazil, Argentina and Mexico if I'm not mistaken. There has been a wave of official PS2 lauches some two years ago in Brazil and Latin America.

If not Argentina, then at least Mexico and Brazil.

PS2 is not produced in Brazil nor Argentina, may be Mexico. But yes, PS2 has been release officially in Brazil ... 7 YEARS AFTER THE REST OF THE WORLD!!!

On the other hand Microsoft sells 360 since 2007 and the major games have been translated and dubbed to portuguese.

Sony could have made Brazil a PS3 stronghold but it lost the PS2 momentum.

Yeah, maybe.

But I'm pretty sure Sony at least assembles together PS2s somewhere here in Brazil (Manaus probably).

Like I said in other thread. X360 is supply constrained everytime and Sony likes to randomly produce PS3s. Very interesting the way some of you guys think.

Difference between  Sony and VGC is much (2.3 million). Too many console manufactured and not distributed (many gifts or tests?)

Hardly an explanation since PS3 was constrained in USA up until some time ago. By the way, VGC isn't perfect. Sometimes being in line with Japan and USA isn't just enough specially for stuff that it is strong in other markets. There is still no accurate tracking for south America, parts of Europe, Asia etc. and maybe there will never be. Look at Starcraft 2. The best it could be done was assume how much it sold outside of western Europe and North America.

By the way, take NSMBWii for another instance. It sold way over the shipments over the last four months according to numbers here.

There is no way the gap is that close. I call BS, (there's alot of consoles on store shelves) It's still 5 million gap not a 3.6 or whatever gap.

I know it doesn't really mean anything but the amount of PS3's i see in stores is about half of what the other systems have out.  If we talk about handhelds, then all stores i go to have around 50-100 DS systems, yet their supply at retail is not shown to be this large on Vgchartz.

Uhm, I work for a company that supplies stores with hardware and games (i.e. the middle person) and Sony hardware is very hard to get, so why would this be BS?

Sigh, this above was me... Can someone delete that account as I have no recollection of ever making it >_> (and put that comment here)

EDIT: Above comment was...

"Uhm, I work for a company that supplies stores with hardware and games (i.e. the middle person) and Sony hardware is very hard to get, so why would this be BS?"

maybe the ps3 is undertracked, but this overshipping can also mean having more supplies for the upcoming months

Brazil PS3 counts for USA (some for EU importers).

Mexico is Mexico. The others country I don't know (some maybe).

PS. PS2 is manufactured in Brasil... after a decade.

Correct... PS2 is manufactured in Manaus (Brazil) since early 2009.
