Forums - Gaming - Predictions: GOTY Totals?

Machina said:

I think Wii will get the most, mainly due to SMG2. Though it could do a 'GTA IV', in that everyone gives it a 10 at review time but then gives the GotY award to something else entirely, which of course made total sense (I know this'll come back to bite me in the ass if VGC gives it to something other than SMG2).

360 in second, thanks to Reach and a handful for Mass Effect 2, which could put it just behind Wii. PS3 third, because I don't see its exclusives racking up enough GotY awards between them to challenge Reach and SMG2 in that respect.

PSP and DS tied last with no GotY awards. Although a JRPG site could give one of them a GotY award if they don't think the consoles offered anything exemplary this year, but I think it's unlikely to happen.

I kind of get the same feeling, that Reach and SMG2 are going to be the biggest hits, but I'm thrown off because I have no idea where something like LittleBigPlanet 2 will fit in. The first game was GoTY 2008 after all, and it seems Media Molecule have retained the magic with LBP2, I just don't know if it will be enough.

Hey Seece do you know what site it is that gives a list of every GotY award each year and totals them up to find who won the most awards?  I only ever used the link by searching for the post that used it on these forums, but I can't find it now.  I need it for a bet.

No sorry, that's first I've ever heard of such a list.

Are you guys making fun of me?! I made that list!!!!

I really doubt you run the site I'm thinking of, it would count every single goty award and it's how I learned Bioshock actually beat SMG for its year.

I vote for the Wii this year btw, Seece.

I agree, I don't think Machina's capable of making a list without fucking it up somehow.

To predict GOTY and the console who will win the most awards this time is a very hard job. Last year things were so much easier with U2.

This time we have Starcraft II / ME2 for PC, ME2 / RDR /  Reach for X360, GT5 / LBP2 / RDR for PS3 and SMG2 for the Wii.

Even if I want Mass Effect 2 to win, I have a feeling RDR will grab the most awards. I'm going with the, uh, PS3 (hard time choosing it over the X360!).

Being 100% honest here.

I do not expect Mass Effect 2 to run away with XBox360 GOTY awards. The game came out really early in 2010, so even if later released titles score lower, that is partially due to the to fact that it being compared to ME2 and how far it attempts to advance past it. For example, if Dragon Age 2 released this year and scored a 90 on Meta, I would expect it to beat out ME2 for RPG of the Year, essentially negating any chance of ME2 to win.

As far as shooters go I 100% expect REACH to run away with the title. Yeah Black Ops may end up being good, but it still carried to weight of being a Treyarch released, which pretty much never live up the quality their Infinity Ward counterpart delivered, not to mention MW2 was beat out by KZ2 last year, which in turn defends my above paragraph, showing that overall Metascore means nothing.

RPG of the Year, I expect at the present time for Fallout: New Vegas to win. Why is that? Easy. I don't see US media giving Final Fantasy the nod, especially when they killed it in reviews.

Now that bring me to overall 2010 GOTY. Tough choice, but I doubt Fable 3 will get it, since Fallout 3 will beat it out for RPG of the Year. I do not see Mass Effect 2 getting it because of what I just said in the previous sentence. I do not see it going to CoD because of MoH and BFBC2.

I see it going to one of 3 titles.

Super Mario Galaxy 2, although I think that will falter since this gen seems to be about innovation and sorry to say, but Galaxy 2 does not fit the bill.

I think it may go to GT5 because it offers more than any other racer this generation and adding a track editor to a Gran Turismo is absolute overkill. If not I see it going to LittleBigPlanet 2 and to be 100% honest I would be absolutely fucking surprised if it does not.

Why did I choose LBP2? Does it have to do with a bias? Could be, but to be honest that is not the case.

LittleBigPlanet 2 is coming off the success of a 95 Meta game and not only brings back a really good single player story mode, but it goes beyond anything we have seen this generation and gives you the ability to make just about anything you want.

Can't make a RTS, FPS or a Racing game? No big deal. LBP2 support user generated content just like LBP did, so you can be 100% sure that you will see hundred, if not thousands, if not hundreds of thousands or even millions of games spread across various genres available to each and every LBP owner (since PSN is free), all for the price of just $60.

Now be real with me people, whether you are a PS, XB or Nintendo fanboy, how could you make any argument what so ever against LBP walking away with majority of the GOTY awards? Anything other than that is pure lunacy in my opinion.

I understand that many sites like to opt for the choice that makes most gamers happy, even if it isn't the whole hearted truth, so with that said Red Dead Redemption could come out and take it, although I don't think it deserves it, as much as I enjoy it.

PS3 my friend. LBP2 is way too hard to side against IMO.

Although I feel a bit dirty for going against Fable.

So put me down for PS3.

I think the biggest booster for LBP2 might be that it's much easier to find good levels and set them up to be played, and the game will launch with over 2 million levels basically. I'm really looking forward to finding the good levels from LBP1 on the new website, that alone is good reason for me to get LBP2.
