... I'm not convinced by this statement, at all.

It seems that you're mindset is still stuck in the NES era.

I have a huge aversion to story in any game. It's possibly due to my autism (Asperger's). I find empathy with fictional characters very difficult.

Story just isn't why I play video games, so any cutscenes, dialogue et cetera I view as getting in the way of me playing.

Okay, I suppose that's credible enough.

What on earth is that supposed to mean?

Well see... Wait, who are you?

Oh, you're that guy who made that bet with Khuutra. Ah, I see. It's great that people here have such wonderful hobbies.

And it's great that you're more interested in demeaning people than engaging in dialogue. I am interested in what you meant by "mindset stuck in the NES era", or are you not willing to expand on that?

Ah yes, I forgot. Sorry.

Anyway, the reason is that I find it kind of weird how people tells that bringing a deeper story element to a game is somehow a horrible decision. It's not. It's the way  you bring and use that story element that can be considered bad. Plus, bringing a story element to a game franchise that is not compatible with such will be on a certain expense of the game franchise.

Metroid however, is not one of those franchises, because there are seeds of a much more broader story is already there since Metroid II, or even the first Metroid to an extent, so it's not as difficult to imagine a story for it than say, Tetris.

That is how I think atleast.

Ok, I don't find anything in this post that is disagreeable. "Story" was quite commonplace in the NES era. Some of the biggest NES hits had 'story', even Super Mario Bros. In fact, of the top ten selling NES games, only the ninth (NES Golf) was lacking in 'story' altogether.

On the other hand stuff like what's written in the post you responded to: "Prime 3/Fusion/Other M are, in my opinion, killing the series by introducing more characters, voice acting, making the game more linear, adding a narrative and dialogue, and trying to 'humanise' Samus when she already works as a silent protagonist.", was quite lacking in the top NES titles. Strangely, even today when we look at the biggest selling titles of this generation, they are also scarce. Of all the 12 titles this gen to reach 15 million sales, only one has much of those elements.

1) Wii Sports – 63.72m
2) Wii Play – 27.48m
3) Nintendogs – 23.74m
4) Wii Fit – 22.57m
5) Mario Kart Wii – 22.46m
6) New Super Mario Bros. DS – 22.12m
7) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (X360 & PS3) – 19.21m
8) Brain Training – 19.18m
9) Mario Kart DS – 18.16m
10) Pokemon Diamond / Pearl – 17.51m
11) Wii Sports Resort – 16.15m
12) New Super Mario Bros. Wii – 15.05m

Looks awesome. Only thing I notice as a potential learning curve is the aim/shooting.

what learning curve?  in third person shooting uses auto aim.  in first person the point and shoot seems as intuitive as any gameplay gets.

OT; i'm not liking this.  on it's own merit it very well might be a good game but the cut scenes and bad voice acting, fast gameplay, autoaiming, ect.   it just doesn't feel like a metroid game to me...or maybe just not what i want as a metroid game.  either way, i'm just not happy with what i'm seeing.

Why am i reading so many 'bad voiceacting' complaints?

The voices are great.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I don't hear any bad voice acting, I actually quite like them

voice acting is fine, though most of this footage is stuff we've seen before. Guess Nintendo doesn't want to spoil all the environments for us.

True that, however even if Metroid Other M didn't have a deeper story, I doubt it will somehow make a huge difference in it's sales numbers. That's mostly because of the gameplay, which is basically about exploration and environmental puzzle solving. Whereas all the entries on the list are accessible, "pick up and play" material (Well, except Pokemon), which are much more easier for more casual people to get into .
