Seems like the popular kids at school are the ones that pretend to not like anyone and try to show no emotion. at times i can be like that but why do people act "angry" to get attention?

That's not angry, that's apathetic. Apathy is cool to a certain degree, yes. It's been that way for a long time, as you could see "too cool to care" archetypes dating back to the 50's and possibly earlier, depending on where you look.
Anger is not cool. I'm angry. I'm a control freak that flies off the handle regarding many things (though you've only seen results of that in Monster Hunter and Sin and Punishment) and has a low tolerance for ineptitude. I can quite definitively say that i have never been percieved as cool.
Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
It's interesting how the perceptions of cool change depending on the environment you're in.
