Even Nasa says that when Solar Max peaks in 2012 it will affect us. Check the link I put up. Newer Satellites lose 5 to 10 years of their life span while older satellites come crashing down to Earth. You do know satellites don't last forever right? Also solar flares will affect this Earths ozone layer exposing us to large amounts of radiation.

Regarding the Earth's poles already shifting, some scientist do believe that the Earth is in the process of a polar shift as we speak. However because no one was around during the last pole shift no one really knows how long it will take or if it speeds up. The Earth's magnetic field is at its lowest levels and the Sun's energy has an affect in decreasing that field. Even the most hardened skeptics know something has to give as our magnetic field decreases. The most obvious affect will be earthquakes and hurricanes. Also UV rays will be dangerously high. This will be really dangerous for people that can't get shelter. When the Earth heats up, it may increase global warming. Add that to what we've already contributed and you have disaster. By the way has anyone seen "An Inconvenient Truth"? Great movie.

 theres a difference. this was predictedages ago by some roman or greek guy (cant remember name off top of my head but he predicted 9/11 and WW2 and all that so he might be right)

 well if the meteor doesnt hit theres also the chance that the gamma ray from an exploding super nova might hit us. One barely missed us like 2 or so yhears ago. One of thos hits us. BANG!

We'll have major technological advances to destroy the meteor.

Hopefully Earth will be here for many more generations of gaming. One of the biggest ignorances of humanity is that we are destined to be here forever. That with all the debris flying out there, and all the changes flying through space, we will somehow be safe from all of it. Extincition does suck, but it is a threat to every species. Just looking at our planet or the moon, and you will find postcards left in the form of craters. I doubt we will be hit by anything big tommorrow. One day? For sure.

Attempting to destroy an asteroid could end up in a really bad way.
