Forums - General - Why don't you believe in a god?

I believe in God and i follow the religion islam. Try reading the Quran one day. The book is actually very scientific. It explains many things. It even says the world is round even though the book was found at a time people thought the world was flat. It even hints that there other planets with life on it. Anyways everything has to come from somewhere. And there are some things that just can't be explained. And then God is the answer because everything has to come from somewhere. You think the universe just popped up one random day and humanity just popped up as well. Having no answer is just as bad. Lets face it just because there is no proof doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

It's because without God you can't explain reality.

From what we have observed so far in this physical world we can conclude that stuff don't come into being from nothing, so there must be an explanation outside this reality, forces beyond the observable physical world.

Then there are dozens of other reasons to believe in a God.

If you can't have something come from nothing then where did god come from?  If you say he's always been then that answer nulifys your own argument because then the same could be said for the universe.  If you say another god then the question must be asked again endlessly.

From what we know about our universe through observations time and time again stuff don't come out of nothing. Therefore there should be something beyond this universe, for example a god.

so saying something exists with no proof isn't bad?

i believe that their is a spaghetti monster which comes and eat humans every time they eat pasta. their is no proof but is their a possibility that such a thing exists.

anyway for something to exist it must be non living or living, the human concept of god is living, but god doesn't have the 9 rules of life, he doesn't reproduce, he doesn't respond to his environment, he isn't made out of dna and cells (if he would he would be dead by know because living creatures grow(it's a rule).

from what we know about our universe and the fact that if green land melts their will be an ice age, their are no such things as patterns and hence if we are created the universe shoudn't be created, also if god is part of your universe then he should abide by it laws, hence he must come out of something.

if god created the universe where was he when he did that? if he was in the void he would be non existent.

When God created the universe he was in the god-world.

Yeah, but then you can say that about anything which has no evidence of existing. I could say i believe in dragons and flying spegehtti monsters and all sorts. Without credible evidence it takes someone with divine personal knowledge or blind faith to believe.

EDIT: I also like it how people doged my questions like they were going to give them AIDS.

This is probably not gonna end well.

That said. I'm agnostic. Which is not to say that I don't care, but I believe 'believing' in something you can't even have proof for is meaningless and ultimately dumb. It'd be nice if there were god or gods with happy endings after death and all that jazz, but there's no proof. No way to know that this is true. I'm not going to be believe in something just because it makes me feel good. And i'm certainly not going to run around basing my life on a false premise.

On the other hand, to claim I know such and such can't and doesn't exist is equally ridiculous. Unicorns might exist, somewhere in the universe on a planet we will never go, where life evolved similar to ours, but with some unique differences. I'm still not going to claim I _know_ it definitely happened, but my mind doesn't reject the notion.

Nice I won't have to write it :P

I basically think the same.

BUT, I would never ever call myself an agnostic. Why should I? It's not like I absolutely have to be something. I'm simply ignoring the question. I, like you said, ultimately think it's meaningless and dumb. But it can also be interesting to question yourself sometimes but you already know you won't find an answer.

Because I'm being realistic.

The only proof of God is a 2,000 year old book that is not scientific at all.

The universe did not spring from "nothing". I suggest many of you read about some more of the universe's origins than just the Big Bang.

The Oscillating Universe Theory says that the universe ends with a Big Crunch then starts again with a Big Bang. Basically this means that everything has existed forever. It didn't just spring out of nothing, it was just there.

Although this is the same reasoning as God, that everything was just there.

One of the most basic principles of the universe is that matter cannot be destroyed nor created. So the Big Bang did not create any matter, everything in existence was condensed into an infinitely dense point. Many of you are thinking that everything came from nothing, but that is simply not true.

Where did that matter come from? No one knows the answer. Many people are using this as the validation of a God. But the idea that a divine superpower (which need I remind you was also there for all existence, something which you think is impossible for the physical universe) created everything is the most implausible answer of them all.

They're good questions but so common that I guess it gets tiring to address them so often.

As for the last one, there's also a strong correlation between intelligence/education and stance against immigration. But from what I understand you're a big sceptic about immigration yourself. Something ain't right just because intellectuals believe in it.
