Forums - General - Why don't you believe in a god?

The real question is, Why do you believe in god?

I mean there's nothing that shows in anyway that he(it) exists.

Even scientist claims 90% of the universe is not made up of matter. So the universe is made up 90% of nothing and 10 % of something then what is more real something or nothing?  What if everything is actually made of nothing? What exactly is this stuff we call matter? And does it really matter?

Ever notice the more scientist learns the more wacky their theories becomes.

its made out of dark matter, its like a sort of glue which keeps galaxies in their place.

I don't believe in a God, because i can't believe in a all powerful, all knowing perfect being that creates.

Creation is a act of challenge, to create something new, something better, something that has not been done before.

A perfect being would not create anything, it is all knowing, the moment it just thinks about creating it already knows how it would turn out and how it will end, there is no point in creating it.

a perfect being is all powerful it can create whatever it wants, but there is no challenge, because everything would work out perfectly, the being itself is perfect, why would it need to create anything new, it could never be better.

any being that creates is not a god.

So God cannot share its act of existing? You mean he couldn't have done it in an act of love.

Love? like in omnipotent being with human emotions? Now that is a scary thought.

Divine love is not like human love, that would be a scary thought for real.

you make it sound like you know this as a fact

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

@thread

Maybe because the story of god (and every other religion) is the exact replica of the Egyptian Sun God. But hey it's something to believe in I guess but in the meantime I'll just believe in myself and I'm sure I'll get much further in life doing so.

You watched Zeitgeist right?

That movie is the biggest bunch of bullshit ever. Including the bit ripping out religion.

No, the only movie I've seen specifically about religion is 'Religulous' which was a documentary.

Oh, gosh, last time I check there was a thread for politics, now there is a thread for religion.

The problem with religions are there are so many religions claiming their god is the one and only true god, but how can it be true if their true god created Europeans, Jews, Arabians, Chinese, Indians, Africans, Native Americans and others all at the same time, separated on different continents and does not know the existence of  one another for thousands of years, all worshiping different deities? So how come this god only send his son to a minor Jewish tribe and not to China, India which are much much more populated with his creations?

If your god is true, what about Shiva and Vishnu?  They are true in every sense to their worshipers as Jesus to Christians.

So, I do not believe in a god that created everything and care about every decision you make in your life, you make your own choices and you have to bear with the consequences. The world would be a better place if you really put your heart and effort into it because you, as an individual do care.

Because Judaism is a religion specific to the jews and the deity whom they worship was made up by them according to their culture and traditions (authoritan and patriarchal)?

As an act of love for what though? For what reason would he create everything? What's the benefit to him?

Good question. Love for whom? Nothing existed, and you can't love something that doesn't exist.

Stop putting words in my mouth. I never said outside beings were affecting the universe, I said an outside being is the source of the universe

So it affected something in the universe then. What? Caused the Big Bang?

, plus you cant seem to grasp the idea of a being that trascends matter, time and space.

You're right, I can't. I'm imagining a yellow-purple round square. Just because you can use those words in that order doesn't mean it makes sense.Either you are saying a being exists within the scope of science (matter, time, space), or you leave scientific concepts out of the argument altogether. Combining them isn't consistent.

That's what philosophy arrives to, and using human reasoning only. If you have the ability to reason and you understand logic you will see that what I say is not contradictory with anything in our universe.

Neither are pink unicorns. Yet you seem to believe one exists but the other does not. Why?

I also never said God was part of this universe, cause it's not. Time is part of our universe, and I never said there was no dark matter or dark energy. Try reading my posts before inventing stuff

If God is not a part of this universe, he can't have affected anything in it and thus you can't use science to determine its nature. You seem to want to use science to say where God could be (universe is expanding, or we only know about 90% of the universe) but then are inventing terms (transcending time and space) which aren't consistent with any science we know about.

I ask: what toolset are you using to examine the question of God? Science, logic, something else?

I dont believe in god simply because i have not seen nor heard nay evidence of a god or godess existing.

Lol i just cant believe people dont believe in anything, you telling me you can look at the human body and many different things on this planet and think there is no design behind it. I can understand different religions having trouble in figuring out which is true and which is not but I cannot understand the people whom think there is nothing. I’m very open minded but telling me there is no intelligent design is unacceptable. Look up thyroids, your liver, any internal part of your body and tell me shit like that just happens, I’m pretty sure there would be no life on this planet if the big bang just happened, and who created the big bang. Another question would be who created God but I cant answer any of this. So ill say we will all see when we die case closed

Go back and read one of the threads on evolution. There is a wealth of knowledge and evidence available on how the intricacies of life have evolved to how they are now and are still evolving. Life is really not the best case for intelligent design either as if it were designed it'd be the most "unitelligent" and shoddy design ever created. Take the appendix for instance, why would any designer place an organ in your body that does nothing except randomly kill you?

Just because you find "shit like that" highly complicated doesn't mean we don't have full explainations of how many of them came about. We might have gaps in our knowledge, but science is there to fill them and that is what is currently happening.
