So I'm assuming Hardware in Europe will be boosted by more than 20k units?

Well I don't think anyone thought it would be less than that.

lol, man you'd be surprised, some think it'll be below the PS3 WW in 2 weeks.

They see all the facts about shortages in the US and stick their fingers in their ears and scream "can't hear you!"

Probly because thats the same thing other side did to them when Gamestop,Sony and even ioi said that there is ps3 shoratges....

Here's a sample

that just 1 of the threads, you see the ppl calling the shortages BS/tactics? I await them to use the same excuse now.

Here's Gamestop reports ps3 out of stock most of the time.

When? Cos I can believe they had genuine shortages all last year.

This year their shortages have been to do with an RS chip or something, meaning stock was never going to be replenished to meet demand.

This is a diiferent situation for Microsoft.

ive just looked on most online retailers and they are all still showing stock, so unless they all got there second shipment this morning, i think sold out might be an over statement.

Maybe in bricks and mortar but Amazon UK claim to have them in stock or at least they have done since the few days since launch.

Just checked and still in stock.

When i tried to get mine at the weekend the guy at the shop said they expected more to come in next week. So maybe they got a shipment in today hence why some places say in stock.

It really makes plenty of sense for current 360 owner to upgrade to a "slim."  Here in the U.S., buying the external 250 hard drive and the wireless adaptor will cost you around $200.  So for another $100 you get a potentially more reliable system than previous models.  And any trade-in value helps, too.  Surprising, no. But good initial hardware value for the money.

What's interesting is, all the supermarkets are sending BACK phats to Microsoft, because they don't want to offer them at a discounted price.

Because they'd lose money on the phats, or they are seeing this huge demand for Slims and want to sell the more profitable Slims instead to these customers?

Probably due to multiple factors. Some of which being that slim is only slightly more expensive. Slim is going to be perceived as being less likely to die on you than a phat (until we find out the numbers, which could go either way). Slim is the new thing.

Wouldn't it make more sense to buy a discounted phat? The latest are quite reliable and this summer will kill quite a lot of the older ones still alive, so time will come when MS will only be able to replace broken phats with slims, instead of refurbished phats (not taking into account that slims already enjoy costs reductions, when economies of scale and production process refinement will kick in they'll become cheaper, maybe even than refurbishing old phats).

The stigma on phats is pretty big. Everytime I turn mine on (and its a late model) I always wonder, is now the time when its going to RROD. Why dance with the devil when you can dance with a new angel. The price difference is not that large.

Understandable, but if I wanted a XB360 my plan would actually be to buy a phat for less with the hidden agenda that should it break, being a recent and more reliable phat, it would do it quite late, with a very high probability that by then MS could only replace it with a Slim, so I'd get a working phat now for less, possibly replaced later, if necessary, with a Slim without having to pay the Slim's full price.

Precise enough statistics about the real average longevity of the latest phats would be necessary, though, as if their life expectation is little more than 3 years, so still short, but beyond the extended warranty, it would be necessary to "help" them RRoD before the warranty expires.

I think it's safe to say that when something is "sold out" on such a large level, it's a given that there will be the few here and there unaccounted for.  I'm sure the same applied to the PS3 as well.
