I think achievements were a brilliant idea from MS. Small, but great innovation.

I think a lot of games need to reward some actions in a better way. When I finish a game (you know, BEATING it) on the hardest difficulty, I want at least 2/3 of the achievements. I don't run around and do some stuff just to get achievements.

700 for finishing the game on the hardest level.

200 for some multiplayer stuff

100 extraordinary things to master.

That would make sense.

I think if you finish GTA IV, which is quite a big game in the first place. You only get 200 or 300 gamerscore. Makes no sense.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I would venture to say Microsoft had at the time and is still full of employees who play the World of Warcraft at work and at home.

The World of Warcraft is all about achievments and titles for those like myself who were pathetic enough to think they mattered.

You do know WoW achievements came after the 360 right?

and steam before 360. so yeah.... and i am pretty sure many games had small archivements, :D, i had one because i killed omega weapon in FF8

horribly wrong.

Steam achievements were introduced in late 2007...

"None of that is required, but when you absolutely, positively want to make sure that you’re in sync you can double check your connection before signing off for the night. But remember, the sync is completely automatic and manual syncing is not something we’d ever ask our most excellent customers to do."

Interesting read. I like that part as well. Why doesn't the PS3 do that???

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

In the end we added the notification popup and its happy beep, which turned out to be the right decision,

I love that sound, though it's the the sound when your friend gets online.

How different is PS3 Achievement compared to 360s?

The idea of in-game rewards aren't new, the idea of tying all those in-game rewards together were.

Also, I thought Steam achievements were a relatively new thing.

Heheh no.Steam launched achievements there achievement system in 2007.

While you can say getting "achievements" were always around( mario collecting all stars etc etc) microsoft was the first to put it on a worldwide scale implementing the system to all games.Lets see the naysayers discredit microsoft this one now. :)

The steam achievements launched in 2007, Ps3 trophies 2008, WoW 2008 with Wrath of the Lich King Expansion. Microsoft? 2005 i guess they feel terrible for liking something microsoft implemented.

It's a love/hate relationship for ps3 owners..the trophy league on this site proves that.

I can see the 700 for finishing the game on the hardest level for games with more than 1 playmode or even then i think 700 is a bit to much, unlocking for subsequent difficulties(like halo etc) but gta has terrible difficulty scaling.I liked Gta4 achievements minus the  200 pigeons. That pissed me off.

WOW (any MMORPG) is about nothing but achievements/chores. (look at my new shiny armor). I remember when beating a tough game use to be the achievement. but a lot of games has stuff like auto-heal , rewind , stuff you used to have a gameshark for, so finishing a game isn't really hard anymore.

I'd rather any achievement be in the actual game. The only achievement I get are ones I get by just playing the game.
