Forums - Sales - PS3 Having A Better 2010 Than 360 And Wii

There people go again talking about sales as if everyone of them fills their own poketbooks. Seece seems very defensive lately and BHR obviously created this thread to annoy people like him.

Some perspective here, the PS3 has had a hardware redesign and launched a GOTY exclusive in Uncharted 2 last year and many other AAA titles this year yet stilln got outsold by the Wii.  How that works out as having a better year than the Wii mystifies me.  It's certainly better than the 360's year so far though.

I don't think it counts as a hint when someone mentions NPD (<---Pretty obvious right there).  And honestly, it isn't stupid, it's a fact that the USA does not = the world.  I usually only see people (myself included) mention this odly, little known fact when a select few start to get big heads around NPD time.

Good time to make this thread BHR.

By end of september you should make this same thread and lets see where things stand...

The only time its even remotely relevant is when someone actually thinks that the US = the world.

If anyone who is overhyping Gran Turismo 5 as the OP is, then let me sober you up with a dose of hardware totals via VGChartz:

Hardware Totals

Total worldwide sales (in millions of units) per console. For old consoles all figures are total shipments from manufacturers, for new consoles all figures are current sales as measured by VGChartz

If you are reading it correctly, the "Worlwide" figure is a horizontal adding of the Americas, Japan, and EMEAA (Europe Middle East Asia Africa) for each system. I put in a "Total (by market)" to add vertically down to determine which market was the largest for the three home consoles of this generation, therefore the most worthwile in discussion here and in corporate boardroom meetings for marketing new products.

Overwhelmingly, the Americas is the largest market, therefore it is the market Sony needs to pump in the most advertising and marketing in order to top Microsoft in yearly sales.

I would like to know how many units are sold in each individual EMEAA (Europe Middle East Asia Africa) region. I would guess that Europe consumes maybe a fifth to a quarter of the total software and hardware that Canad and the USA does in a year.

I could be wrong, but I can't be proven wrong as Europe is lumped in with the Middle East, Asia and Africa to make it's numbers look bigger than it actually is. Reminds me of the days in junior high elementary when you see a map of the world and think WOW Europe is so big, but once you add up the total landmass of Europe, then you realize it is only about half as big as the USA in total landmass.

Appearances on maps or lumped together in EMEAA are deceiving and give people a very wrong view.

Bu-bu-but if you add up Japan and EMEAA together its bigger than the Americas! ;)

In all seriousness, that was a good post and makes a lot of sense.  The reality is that there are a number of fan(boy)s that like to spin numbers that don't put their system of choice in a bad light.  I imagine next we'll see per capita numbers for certain regions as a means to show how a certain system is doing.

The Americas (which, iirc, include Canada and Mexico) are likely the biggest 'region' in land mass and sales numbers.  Therefore it is the most important.  People can minimize that until they are blue in the face but it will not change that fact.

Again, good post.
