Forums - PC - Starcraft 2 development to cost $100 million

Once Blizzard and Activison did their little dance, did PC gamers really expect to avoid Assholevision's penny pinching rapefest? I sure didn't. Did the absurd splitting up of content into 3 release not give it away? The day Blizz bedded Activ was the worst day for PC gamers in recent history. Sure they have some autonomy, and I'm sure the game will rock (most dev was pre merge), but this will just be another case of Activision removing features in the name of some bullshit PR stance. Blizzard as we knew it is dead, fuck 'em and support indie innovators and companies like iD, Valve, and the rest of our diminishing allies. PC gamers need to stop buying dumbed down feature weak product. Looking at Steams' online numbers right now makes me sick. Modern Warefare 2 has nearly 10 times as many online players as Battlefield BC2. If we keep supporting these shitty efforts we deserve the dumbed down experience we receive. Computer gamers deserve a top of the line experience to match our intense involvement and funding of this industry.

Games like Super Mario, Halo, Starcraft, Gran Turismo and Grand Theft Auto pushing budgets in the $100 Million range is dangerous....

Khm.... Do you have any proof that any Super Mario game cost $100 million??? Maybe you've mistaken to 10 million? Or just wanted to write 'all super Mario games combined?' :)

At least we can say they are invested in this beautiful series.

Its not dangerous for games like Starcraft. I think its more of a trouble for mid ranged games then for the really big titles.

$100 million and we still get that shit of a system called Battle.net 2.0?

Fail.

Was going to say this. You beat me to it -_-

Why does everyone hate battle.net 2.0 so much?

The 4 biggest issues: No chat rooms and the lack of community that gives you, no LAN (not a problem for me, but a big issue for a lot of hardcore StarCraft fans), no cross-region play, and finally the restrictions Blizz are placing on custom map creation and publishing which a lot of the custom map community are outraged by, and which will therefore damage one of the best parts of the original StarCraft's online experience. The good stuff would be ladder rankings which actually work and... er, Facebook integration. Yeah!

12 years and a massive budget later, and they've managed to make Battle.net 2.0 considerably worse than the original. That takes quite some doing.

*reads: "no LAN"*

*joins the hate train*

Just saw the commercial. Got excited because I thought it was Mass Effect related. Was a CGI commercial.
