| Viper1 said: LOTN, the games Ilisted represent a concept more so than their actual IP. Some call them core or hardcore games. or at the very least, non-casual. The point was to illustrate that many Wii gamers behevently vocalized their frustration at the lack of these so called core games and yet when they were presented to Wii gamers at retail, Wii gamers failed to validate the demands by not putting enough money where their mouth was. And I can only assume the one we got you are referring to is RE4: Wii Edition. A game we did not need to vocalize our demand for as it was in planning and development before Wii even launched. And it sold on almost merit alone.
And props to all of you making the effort to support those risk taking developers, publishers and IPs. |
The thing is that "core" doesn't automatically mean "hit". GTA is both. Madworld is just one of those. The reason being that, well how big have brawlers been in recent years? Madworld is actually one of the better selling games in that genre right now. And that's actually impressive considering the atypical art style and no replay value.
Oh yeah, the Wii is getting Dragon Quest. That sure as heck is something that is both of these. It's also a game I'm looking forward to, as I've been a fan of the series since VII. I just hope I can afford IX soon.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs
Viper, it's a bit rich to claim the forum going Nintendo fans don't support the developers. Most of us here have probably bought a lot of the niche Wii third party games that the wider public didn't care about. But the forum-going Nintendo fanbase is a tiny fraction of the overall market. No game lives on our support unless it's extremely low budget.
I bought The Conduit out of support for the developer. It had a shit single player campaign, no local multiplayer and the online multiplayer only lasted so long before it became unplayable. I said I wouldn't buy a game out of 'support' again after that, but now it seems Conduit 2 has the very feature I e-mailed HVS and asked for (Mario Kart style splitscreen online), so I probably will be buying the next one.
I also bought a bunch of the other games on your list, which turned out to be mediocre or crap. We can hardly be blamed when a shit game doesn't break a million, especially when we don't number anywhere near millions ourselves.
A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
I'll get Epic Mickey and I'll probably get Goldeneye. I'm not going anywhere near anything developed by HVS ever again though.... I'm also never going to buy a COD game no matter the platform.
I'll be getting a 3DS with a fair few third party games depending on when they actually launch...

unfortunately, I expect the gamers to pick and choose/hem and haw which game or two out of the vast list they are going to purchase...and the casuals will miss this wave of great games totally, as is the usual. The people that are really watching this wave of games and understand the quality of whats coming (folks like us that frequent gaming sites or monthly publications) can only purchase so many titles and get the numbers up so high. Unfortunately, I expect sales on most of these new titles to be moderate at best and some even dismal when they hit retail and the casuals don't understand what they are.
I hope I'm very wrong about this, but I fear for the fate of some of these games. I know I'm looking to throw down on black ops and conduit2, though I foresee MH3 still taking up all my gaming time even then, and I wont be playing them for a while.
Hey.. don't look at me... I'm saving my money for Just dance 2... can't get more core then that..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)
hey i brought Madworld, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles because the devs told me to, when i brought them they fucking sucked
and whats wrong with wii owners having a freadom of buying games? like anything they want? is there a reason why they should buy these mature games?
Edit: and there better be a Good Reason to lol
Hey, I'm a bigger supporter for 3rd party games than I am for Nintendo games. Last Nintendo game I bought was...Metroid Prime Trilogy.
This year I've bought Monster Hunter Tri, Sakura Wars and Fragile; bought them new and for full price.

Yeah if 3rd parties make a 90 game I'll buy it otherwise they can just fuck off. This isn't a fuckin soup kitchen and I'm not here to show charity to incompetent 3rd parties.
On my list: Metroid, DK, Epic Mickey, Kirby
Everything else is suspect.
