Forums - Nintendo - The Official Metroid Other M Thread

That new trailer is both exciting and invigorating. I look forward to intense Team Ninja-style action, which I love in any context I can get.

That trailer was just jaw-dropping...

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

The wait is nearly over

Samus is ready for anything

It's been a long wait for Metroid: Other M, but within a few weeks we'll finally know whether or not it's an excellent outing for the bounty hunter. Metroid creator Yoshio Sakamoto certainly seems to think so, even going so far as to say it's the perfect Metroid experience in an interview withOfficial Nintendo Magazine.

But what is Mr Sakamoto's idea of the perfect experience?

It is to fully understand, feel empathy and fight together with Samus Aran. In other words, it is to play Metroid: Other M. I hope you will enjoy playing Metroid: Other M for a perfect Metroid experience.

From the beginning, Metroid: Other M has been touted as a much more story-based outing for Samus, filling in some of the more mysterious parts of her history with a range of supporting characters and cutscenes too. We'll soon find out whether it succeeds in combining art with action, so stay tuned for our upcoming review.

As well as a new trailer, with Samus' voiceover from the beginning of the game dubbed over the events of the original 3 Metroid games.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I played the demo today at gamescom. Though I was never the biggest Metroid fan (I started console gaming with N64, never knew about it til Gamecube, only then tried the 2d titles and didn't try Prime til Wii, don't like ego perspective games) I'm sure I'm going to buy it now.

The 3rd/1st person view switching is so seamless, 3rd person controls work great, it feels a lot like the 2d Metroid games. There seems to be a lot of 2,5d areas in the game. I didn't like the jumping in Prime 3, but with the new gameplay exploration feels great again. Very very good game, I'm even willing to endure the video sequences (which seem all skippable even on the first go).

Great news! Did it was weird using the Dpad to move?

No, not at all. The controls feel excellent. Targeting in 3rd person is automatic, and it works, even though some may think it's cheap. I think this will be compensated by enemy hordes. Wall jumping is a piece of cake and is the same as in Mario titles.

Odd, an earlier demo recorded on Metroid Database seemed to indicate unskippable cutscenes. Maybe it's a last-minute adjustment due to feedback? (since it would be pretty easy to implement hastily, unless the cutscenes were designed to mask section load-times or something)

Do you think the graphics are the best on the system so far?

I'm the wrong person to ask - I'm just not that graphics oriented. They are great, and they are better than most of the Wii games. But I just didn't notice the fine details so that I could do a fair comparison. I was much more focused on the controls.

Mr. Khan: I don't know if it was just the demo, but all the cutscenes were skippable.

So is it true that the gameplay is not always accompanied by music? I guess they want to make the game as surreal as possible.
