Forums - Microsoft - UK Midnight openings for 360S

The 360 will do very well in the UK for some time to come now and should pull numbers around the 80-100k mark for a couple of weeks in Eu/Others but the boost will be nowhere near as big as in NA. I'm more excited to see what, if anything, Kinect does when it launches and how much money MS will throw into the campaign around!

Hopefully there'll be some photos of the queues up on n4g in a few hours then.

Surely there wont be queues... maybe there will be.  I dunno.  I just thought this would be to make tomorrow not as busy.

If there isn't sufficient demand to produce queues, then I can't understand why stores would bother opening at midnight.

But I don't know; I've not worked in a videogame outlet before.

me neither..

Been to one midnight launch for MW2; the queues for that were insane.

Lol I went to Sainsburys at 7am in the morning for MW2, they and all other big retail stores were selling it for £26. Needless to say there was about 200 people there.

Microsoft has timed this fairly well. The X360 lift in the USA and Japan is going to wear off over the next few weeks, but it will take 3-6 weeks for the Euro lift to slow I'd wager.

I stop trusted your predictions in 2008. You said the 360 would decline from this point on, because the 3rd year is always the best. ALWAYS!

I want to see more pics.

This seems to be the first console generation, that I'm aware of, where the console providers are working very hard throughout the generation to compete and drive sales.

Previously there has been one very dominant console so it's all be very simple and stable - the big console grows then tails of while the others thrash around keeping their head above water.

This generation has been truly split across multiple successful consoles and demographics and as a result it's breaking most rules established from previous generations.

Consider how Kinect and Move are being pushed as major console rejuvinators vs the way Sony simply tossed out the Eye on PS2 as another option but didn't feel the need to really push it.

Or how the whole redesign is being pushed for PS3/360 vs the PS2 where it was simply an inevitable shrinking of tech for an already market winning console.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

^^how big would you say the lines were?

not very big considering it was raining and about 40 stores around UK were opening up at midnight.. I got there about 12.05am and about 12 people picked up theirs then they started trickling in slowly after me..

Didn't like going there at that time and felt edgy but then I couldn't sleep well the last few days and thought might as well pick it up and get it over and done with..

those touch sensitive buttons take some time getting used to.. the slightest touch even if a piece of your clothing touches power or open/close dvd button just activates/shuts off the machine.. but loving it so far

All awesome joking aside, how's the WiFi and noise?

UK retailer GAME describes a "fantastic atmosphere" in their 400 stores across the country as the new Xbox 360 went on sale to eager gamers.

They opened at midnight and were met with "amazing demand" as the new leaner and much quieter Xbox 360 hardware got snapped up.

"At midnight, over 400 GAME and Gamestation stores opened across the UK to allow our customers to get their hands on the new Xbox 360," said GAME PR boss Neil Ashurst, reports GamesIndustry.biz. The US has had it on sale a few weeks now.

"There has been amazing demand for the new version of this ever-popular console," he continued. "There was a fantastic atmosphere in our stores as hundreds of people queued to be one of the first to play on the new console."

The new SKU has a dedicated power port for the Kinect camera, as otherwise you need to feed it a separate line from the mains when it releases this November. The Xbox 360 includes a 250GB HDD as of standard and is cooler and quieter in operation.

Have you been chomping at the bit to get the new sleek and sexy Xbox 360?
