Forums - Nintendo - Did you play Eternal Darkness? Why or why not.

Eternal Darkness is one of the best games of all time in my opinion. I play it regularly. Even now I still sometimes come across a sanity effect I had never seen. And, yes, they game tricked me and my friends several times. That was part of the brilliance of it.

Let me just say this and I hope you know what I mean because I don't want to ruin it for anyone. It tricked me out of some "game time" once. I didn't figure-out what had happened until I read an interview where Dennis was laughing about that particular effect. If I wasn't so quick on the trigger I would have found out "This isn't happening."

Yeah as far as the voice acting goe, for a Cube game it was light years ahead of most everything on the Cube.

I thought it was brilliant.

Hell hath no fury like that of a scorn Canadian.

It was a great game, I got it on launch. It was originally going to be on the n64 (never released) then they ported it to the GC. The only thing that disapointed was the combat which was clunky.

-UBISOFT BOYCOTT!-

I got about half way into it but never finished. Maybe I'll go back some day and try it again. The controls weren't the greatest, but it had some fun ideas. Especially with the 'f*&^ with you' moments.

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

I bought the game solely because of the sanity. I heard about that and i thought it was the coolest thing. If you play the game, run through the entire game with no sanity and its one of the coolest experiences ever. I was tricked so many times and even got up off the couch multiple times because of the insanity.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Hell yeah I did, such a great game. That was the first game I played with surround sound and I just have fond memories of being freaked out as hell while playing that game.

And sanity meter-- never have I loved and hated something so much.

MY brother (IGN fan since before the day it was founded I swear) gave me the game for Christmas. I usually only played games I heard my friends playing so I was like "uh, what, is this from the $3 bin at Wal-Mart?" He attached a note that read "Only play after midnight"

The rest of my family went to bed at midnight and I went to bed everyday 1am so it took me a while to beat it, but my god was it priceless. Even without the sanity meter it made your hairs stand up on the back of your neck, but with a low meter... Let's just it was not good on my blood pressure. I made audible screams when moving from room to room and suddenly the screen showed a huge freaking demon staring right at you. I literally dropped the controller. I also enjoyed the one where right when you enter a room with 15 guys and "CONTROLLER UNPLUGGED" flashed across the screen.

/beat it with all 3 outcomes, still play it
//love the spell system, you can spend half an hour fighting one boss constantly casting spells and shields.

Biggest problem with the sanity meter is that it was hard to get to the point where you would be insane. It only happened a few times while playing on Normal and wished it happened more. If you read about the sanity effects that have been documented on the faq, theres some really far out stuff.

One I remember distinctly is the game pretends to reboot the game and shows the Silicon Knights logo followed by a bit of the opening video. I almost cried when that happend cause I put in a few hours during that play.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I will say only one thing: The Bathtub.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said but I don't think you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Haha yea, that one caught me so off guard. I hate it when you don't realise your sanity is low, and you just get creeped out.

I was walking around the mansion as Alex with really low Sanity on my first playthrough and didn't realise so I thought everything was like that. The statue kept looking at me and the painting of that landscape started bleeding and turned into some picture of hell or something. Don't get me started on the sound.
